Joni, don't feel bad, I did not hear about this site or any of the other groups until my son had been in for 6 years. I just happened to hear about it on the TV. Maybe the recruiting office needs to let the families know about these sites so that they don't feel so alone and frustrated.

Congrats Ken's Mom. I know how proud you must be.

Belinda, congrats on your son finishing Nuke school. My son was on the Ronald Reagan for 4 years from 2002 to 2006. He then transferred to Japan for 2 years and he is now in Nebraska. I'm sure he will enjoy himself very much. I know my son did and he made lots of friends. We got to know San Diego and Coronado Island quite a bit. I was able to go out and meet the ship when they came back from deployment back in July 2006. I was on the front row waiting for the ship to come in and that is a sight to see. You will have to try to make that if you can.

Hi Cathy. Glad you joined. I am in Springfield and my son is stationed in Nebraska. He is on Shore Duty so I guess that is why he is there instead of on the water or near the water.

Springfield was hit by high winds. My kid's high school had some roof damage. All the kids told me that they were in the hall fr tornado wrnings for about an hour during the storm. A coupld of rooms in our high school had the ceilings collapse and they are now in the process of fixing the roof. I guess it could have been worse. The high school is just across the street from us but we did not have any damage at our house. Hope everyone had a Happy Mother's Day. My son called and sent me flowers. I get to go see him in 56 more days. Yeah.

Thanks. That is what we thought and we could not let that happen to family. Having 4 kids when my youngest is 26 was a real change in our life. We thought we could now go when we wanted but now we get to start over again.
The kids are good. I have a 10 year old boy, an 11 year old girl, a 16 year old boy and the oldest girl just turned 18. She will be able to graduate from high school next year and hopefully go to college for two years free tuition from a program at our high school.

So Karen, where do you live? I am in Springfield, Missouri now. I have been here for the last 13 years. We are originally from Kansas City, Missouri.

Well, Moms, the final papers have come through. My husband and I are the Permanent guardians of our great-nieces and great-nephews until they reach the ripe old age of 18. We went to court on April 9 and the courts granted us full permanent guardianship. Their biological parents did not even care to come down for the court date. We have not heard from their Dad since before Christmas. Their Mom calls but the kids all tell up that they do not want to talk to her.

Hope everyone is doing great. The weather down here has really been great. We had rain over the weekend but it has stopped now.

My son is an OS2 and he is stationed at Offutt Air Base in Nebraska. They do have navy at other bases. Not all are on the water. He is about 6 hours away from home. I am going up there to spend a week with him in July. He has a real nice apartment in Bellevue and he has just finished furnishing it. He brought some of his furniture back from Japan with him.

My son decided to surprise us with a weekend visit. He is stationed in Nebraska so he does not have too far to travel. It is always nice when he does come home for a visit. I am just glad that he is close to home this time. Usually he has been in California or the last two years, he was in Japan.

Joni, I am trying to think of something that I can do this summer with them, but because my husband lost his job and all of his 401k money was issued to him because the company closed their doors, we had to pay taxes on all of the money but we also had to use that money to pay off some bills so that we would not have monthly bills coming in for them. We just filed out income tax on the 15th and we owe the government money instead of getting a refund. I will probably not be able to give the kids any kind of vacation this year. Hopefully next year. At least the older kids got to go to Beaumont Texas last summer for a youth work camp. They went to Beaumont with our church to help rebuild houses that were damanged in Hurricaine Katrina. If we can swing it this year, they will be going to Tennesee to help there. If you have any ideas on a vacation that does not cost an arm and a leg, please let me know. Thanks.
