I will be doing scarfs for Christmas,to send to Afganistan. Since it takes a while to knit or crotchet a number of scarfs, I'm asking all of you for your help now. The scarfs will need to be no wider than 8 inches and 60 inches long and no fringe that could get caught in their gear. They must be desert camo, tans, and browns. Any of you have any questions, please let me know. The more scarfs the better. They will all be sent to our sailors and Marines to keep them warm. To those who don't knit & crochet the scarfs can be made of polar fleece. They actually have a fabric pattern that looks like a sand (grades of tans). Since the fleece is about 60" wide, all the you need to do is cut 7 or 8' wide stripes and the cut off the selvages to make them look neat.

We now have 250 scarfs.

We now have a finish by date. Its Nov. 1st
Uggggg No darling ---whew Im glad I came in here !! Nov 1st is the date will will announce the Xmas group so that Chris and Colorado moms know who and what we are packing for during their party.
We will more then likely ship Xmas things the first week of Dec for Xmas arrival :) You guys have time !! I am hoping to send scarves to our cold ones as Xmas warmth from Navy Moms hand to their hearts :)
Molly, I used the Nov date because there are several people who are mailing the scarfs to me. So I need to get them to me so I can re-pack them for our guys. Those here who are mailing the scarfs themselves have longer to get them done. Sorry about that guys.
Lyn, I will commit to at least one. I crochet. I am currently working on a wedding gift, but will do a scarf. If I mail to you, when do you need them by?
One of my sewing crew knits. How many are you wanting to have?
I will need to be able to mail them out the first week in Dec. I have no idea how many because Molly hasn't chosen a group for Xmas yet. Stay tuned! LOL
okay, well maybe I can just mail with pillowcases. you'll keep us posted.
I can do polar fleece scarfs...I'll start after mid-september. I'll watch for mailing instructions.
I will get my knitting ladies on this! I hope to have 3-4 done (we knit slowly....) I am so excited to do this.
Thanks Cathy, Every scarf counts !
one of my knitting friends has a pattern for a neck wrap, it is a tube shape that slips over the head and covers the neck and part of the collar bones. She wants to know if this is ok to make too or just scarves?
I think that will be fine. We just want to keep our sailors and marines warm.
We have been advised by our Navy sources that they must be tans, light browns and desert camo. They have to blend in with their BDUs (battle dress uniforms). Any other colors would make them a target for snipers.
