Thought I would start a group for the families of sailors stationed in NY for Prototype. It will be nice to chat about what is going on with our sailors whether it is good or bad so that we can support each other. I have connected with many people on this site but it is always nice to meet others that are going through the same things together. Also if you have had a sailor in NY for an extended amount of time then you can help the new ones just coming in on what to expect.

I know, right? I am secretly waiting for that time to see what happens.
I have heard very little from my son since Prototype started in June, and so I called the girlfriend...she said "oh, it is terrible, we only get to speak to each other about two hours a day". AH!!!! I am lucky if I get a text a couple times a month! Oh well...I raised him to be independent. I guess that is what I get.
I got my son back after he lost his girlfriend as well. Well, that said ... the Navy still owns him but is on loan to me for a few minutes every week or two !!!!
I have lost my son to his girlfriend. Geeeze.....
You are welcome, MN Mom, I'll see what stab I can take for the next contest!! How is your son enjoying Prototype so far? My son is loving the feel of the countryside up there and even went out and purchased an air conditioner for his bedroom window!!
Penny, thanks for the posting. You are a fountain of information. I read a little of the article, and will keep it in my file for future info. Don't think sailor son has plans in that direction at this point, but you never know how plans change, and even to have it to pass it on to another mom is great.
On a side note. Did you know we are guessing for a sun catcher again? I am keeping the list of guesses and didn't see your name.
Thanks so much Penny....a very interesting article indeed! I appreciate the info. I'm sure my son would be interested in reading this as well. Thanks again :)
Javajo, here is one link I found about ELT and the civilian world. Will look to see if I can find more: http://hps.org/publicinformation/ate/q3994.html
Hi all...I just joined this group and thought I'd ask either a parent or sailor about info. regarding the ELT program. My son is currently at the tail end of this Prototype and just got accepted in ELT. Can anyone give me some insight as to how this will change his Navy career moving forward as well as his future in the civilian world? From what I understand this is a great thing for him to be part of. Thanks so much and I look forward to getting to know ya'll :)
So the reactor is coming back on line this week and there will be a rush for sign-offs. But everyone will get done. My son said his ELT class, although second in line, is ahead of the first group, and he fully expects to be done by his grad date of 7/20. He told me today that joining the Navy was the best thing he ever did: he got his life on track and he met his lovely wife and now has a beautiful son!
