Melissa- that was a wonderful gesture by your son's CO. How awesome...

Hey everybody- how did you handle packing up your sailor's belongings after he/she graduated from boot camp?...what did you send to him/her at A school? How much did you send? My son would like his fins, mask, and his clothes..but then I found out that they don't really have any room to bring anything extra other than electronics with them to A school and once at A school, they don't have much storage space.  Any advice regarding this issue?

Had to let you all know that my son's CO called him into the office to find out if they needed to make arrangements to send him home to help bail out Colorado!  Really though, his CO was just checking to make sure that none of his family was in harms way from the flooding.  Nice to know the Navy is keeping its eye on our guys and their families.

As it happens, the flooding is all north and west of where we lived, so even if I was still there, I wouldn't have been in danger.

Hope you are all having a great week and hearing from your Sailors!

Thank you Aster, Jodi and Nancy,

The ant situation does make a lot of sense.

Saltyocean my son is there now and he also said they can't have food but.... I have sent him food - brownies, cookies, bars, small trail mix and licorice. I send small amounts and he eats them on his way back to the barracks. if there is too much for him he shares with others! I usually give him an idea as to how much I send and then he takes a few buddies with him. Seems to be working okay for now. Sending brownies out tomorrow in fact! :)

I sent care packages last fall. They had to have plastic containers to put any food in and I think the first box didn't even make it back to his room because his friends and he ate it all!. I sent at least 2 packages and the last one weighed 9#. I sent it all in Ziploc bags. He left there in May or June I think so they may have changed the rules.

When my son was there last fall, they weren't allowed food either. There was a problem with ants in the barracks.....when he moves to San Diego or Jacksonville you can send food care packages,  :)

  Hello moms,

Hope you can give some information  My sailor tells me not to send food packages as they can't have food in their rooms. Other blogers at Pensacola talk about what goodies they send.  Is this a rule  that applies only for the AIRR folks?

Thanks for any light on the subject.

Thanks for the input from several of you.  Our tickets are booked for San Diego next Thursday!  I'm very much looking forward to celebrating this milestone in our son's training - 21 months since he graduated from Boot Camp.  He is in the best physical shape of his life and has matured so much since that day. We are incredibly proud of him.
