For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.
**UPDATE 7/29/2021** You now must be fully vaccinated in order to attend PIR:
In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

I hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving! Just booked a flight for my son to come home for Christmas! I get to see him one more time before his January deployment on the George HW Bush. He is looking forward to it, I definitely am not :(

My swimmer will graduate in 2 weeks going down to see him then 2 weeks leave for Christmas can't wait for the holidays!

I sent my son boxes almost right away. He shared his goodies with his friends and they usually ate everything outside before entering the barracks.

Thank you Melissa. Yes I did go to his PIR, it was great. Didn't get much time with him as he flew out Sat morn. He did take a few cloths I had brought with me but said they took them till he's allowed, so I'll wait. He has to wait few weeks to class up and he's still taking it all in and he has studying to do.

Go ahead and send mail - you might ask your son what, if anything he wants from home now. Mine wanted civilian clothes, some personal items, and some electronic items. I think there was/is a restriction on food in the barracks, but like SMW729 said - check with your guy, he will know.
Congratulations on PR - did you get to go to the ceremony? Good luck to your Sailor in Pensacola.

bats27 you may want to check with your sailor because one was not allowed any food in the barracks until he moved after RSS graduation.

My son just had PIR on 9/2 and now in Pensacola. His birthday is Saturday and was wondering if I can send mail or do they have to wait also what about box of snacks?

Marianne, my son is deployed right now. He uses the ships email to keep in contact. Sometimes the email is down depending on where they are so contact sometimes is spotty but I do hear from him frequently. His phone got fried by the ship radar so his phone no longer is working. When in port he does FB message us which is nice. I send him priority boxes every few weeks. He said it's just like Christmas! The whole squadron benefits from care packages so they really enjoy getting them. I use the large "gameboard" size box-it seems to hold more than the other large box USPS has and I do stuff that box full. The sides are bulging lol. However do not send anything that can't take a beating and definitely tape the whole box because they do arrive beat up. I sent crackers once and was told they were all crumbs.

Congrats bats27 on your son's graduation. It's been a while since my son was at that stage but I do remember him getting mad at others screwing up because it effects the barracks (same as at bc they all pay for someone's screwing up). Like Melissa says tell him to work hard, keep up on his running etc. to keep physically fit. Also he should volunteer if he can. It looks good to their superiors plus it keeps him busy and out of trouble.

Thank you Melissa, He'll be turning 20. Definitely going to tell him to keep his nose clean and hoping he'll be busy studying,swimming, and working out. I had read about the underage drinking but will have to remind him if this is what he wants in life better not mess it up. I can't wait to see him at PIR and see how he is. Thanks again!
