In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Wondering???
I am wondering how things are going at Boot Camp? I know, no news, is good news, but I am soo hoping to get a letter this week. It's been 3 weeks today since she left. I'm feeling in the dark. and alone right now... I even sent a text to her phone on the weekend, even though it's upstairs in her room, how silly is that!!
There's lots of discussion on here about son's but, how are our daughter's really doing???

Don't worry she is fine. It was about 4 weeks before I got a letter from my daughter. They are training, training, training! They PT everyday, they have lots of classes they have to take with tests. They are just learning they Navy way of life! She is safe they will not let anything happen to her. She is probably beat by the end of the day and with all the studying and other things they have to do she hasn't had time. I think I only got like 3-4 letters the entire time she was in bootcamp. But you need to write more often, I wrote everyday and my daughter told me that those letters are what kept her going when she had a bad day! Keep you head up and keep writing the letters and just know it is not that she doesn't want to write she just might be to busy to! :)

Thanks for the encouragement! I know she's probably okay, but you know how it is, the not knowing is what kills you! I have been sending a card or letter everyday, that's a hard thing to do, trying to think of something new to say, without repeating myself... So maybe this week I might get a letter, and as they say, no news, is good news!
BTW, when did you book your flight, and where did you fly into?? Don't know if I should wait or what... -

WHen I wrote everyday I told her about what the dogs did that day or what was going on in the news and just kept telling her how proud I am of her. They need that! We flew into O'Hare but I am flying into Midway this week to see her I will let you know the differences next week!

So where is she? A school? and how soon did you buy your tickets??
That's the kind of notes I've been writing also, my younger daughter was making fun of one she read, I was telling her about how they have changed the lunch menu at the school where I work, I even sent a recap of Housewives of New Jersey, lol. I was actually working on a card from our dog to get ready to send tomorrow, took a lot of cute pictures of our dog that I was going to glue on a card! -

She in Great Lakes at GM "A" School she graduates this week. I bought my plane tickets for PIR about 2-3 weeks before her graduation date. We flew up on a Wednesday as we wanted to get the I'm a sailor call but she ended up going through Battlestations a day early and she left me a voicemail telling me she was a sailor. I cried like a baby!! We toured the area and thought about old times because my husband was also in the Navy and we were stationed in Great Lakes when he went to FC "A" school. My oldest daughter was born in Great Lakes so I was able to show her where we lived and the hospital she was born in. It also gave us time to rest before the big day. Be sure to go to the meet and greet at the Ramada on Thurday night so you can meet the others in your PIR group. We stayed at the Marriott Residence Inn and it was wonderful. They have 2 bedroom studio apartments with a full kitchen it was nice to bake cookies together while we were there. Sorry I keep talking I have just had such a wonderful experience I like to share.

No, I appreciate it, I did make a reservation for hotel, it is a suite, but only micro and fridge I think. So they graduate from A school also?? I haven't found but one person that is on the same ship and Div, so haven't really had anyone to chat with. I have enjoyed your insight.

It is not as formal a graduation but any chance I get to go see her I take full advantage of. They do graduate from "A" school but not all "A" schools allow people to attend graduation. Thank God GM "A" School does because I need some mom daughter time. I only met one person from my daughters same ship and division but it is nice to forge those friendships as they know just how you are feeling and will understand when you walk in your daughters bedroom you bust out into tears! They are comrades in an adventure that you are traveling through. Moms get a lot of crap for being over protective and always worried but that is what makes us tick and we all feel the same way when we are away from our children. This website has been a Godsend for me because I don't know if I would have made it through without my comrades. Keep in touch and I would be willing to talk to you anytime! GO NAVY!!!!!

Thanks so much for writing this!!! My daughter left 3 weeks ago too, Ship 06 Div 949, I know like you said no news is good news , but we text at least once a day:) She took her battery out of her phone but I so understand you texting her, I want to write on her Face Book:) This is getting sooo Hard!! Thanks Toni(T's Mom) made me feel better. I am writing pretty much everyday:) I love this site!:)

So much good information you got here already!!! You can also go to the website for Recruit Training Command and there is a week by week explanation of what the recruits are going to. Keep in mind, they are only allowed to write letters on Sunday and that is also the day to catch up on laundry, ironing, personal grooming needs that they just don't have time to do in the daily rush!! Sometimes my daughter wouldn't get a chance to write because she played violin and sang at church services. She would attend her own and then stay for the next service. She enjoyed the time away from bc stuff but it also took away some of her writing time!!!
Also about sending pictures, if you can print the pictures on regular printer paper and write your letter around them. Any extra thickness or feel to their mail sometimes draws negative attention from RDC's. Just make sure your sealed envelope feels smooth and normal!!!

I love your comments about us moms taking flack but Navy Moms all understand the worry, the missing our children, and the roller coaster. It's just not the same as sending our kids off to college - knowing they'll be home over the holidays or at the end of the school year!!! Not so our kids!!!! -
