V. went to the doctor today and her leg is healing well. He did warn her that she needs to be careful because i is not as strong as she thinks. At least doesn't have to have surgery.

Joanne, We now have some rain and the temperatures are below freezing. That will make for very miserable weather!! AND dangerous roads. and Pat, No I do NOT want to move back to Florida. There may come a day that we have to leave the snowy north (:-( but for now I'll try to plan ahead and then stay in.

Jane, for years I have told V. that paying bank fees or interest is like opening the window and tossing some money out. It is totally unproductive use of money. Of course, she paid little attention and is busy paying off a credit card his collee boyfriend convinced her to use. She is really quiet about it to me since she knows my feelings all too well.

DC,
Boy you are so right about that comment. When we lived in GA I hated the summers. It was just too hot to ever try to do anything outside. And too many times I would burn my hands on the car steering wheel!!! We moved to Ohio in the late fall so we went right into winter just 3 months after we got there. I thought my girls are I were going to freeze to death!!!! One extreme to another!!

Thank you Pat, I will be very careful!! Funny thing - I have a 2002 car that I got when I was living in Augusta, GA. It's a convertible!! Didn't think I'd be driving it in the frozen tundra!! Now I feel so funny when it's below zero, snowing, and just poopy out and I'm driving a convertible!!!!!

Blondie,
She goes to the University of Akron. Luckily today was finals for her and she was done early so she headed back to her nice warm apartment!!!

Pat, I think she is on a naval base over there, outside of Tokyo but not sure. She told my husband about it. If it had been me, I would have been checking the Internet as we talked! She is an aviation electronics technician and will be working on the Prowler, the communications equipment. I told her that should help her with any sound equipment she ever works with.

It's always a bummer when you can't find connections you like. When we lived in Gainesville, we always had to go through Atlanta. Now sometimes even that was iced in. I've spent some time there because of that.

Anna, V used to always tell me about how cold and miserable Maine was. Recently she laughed and said she missed the Maine weather. Pensacola was very hot and humid. Sometimes we're never happy.

Hello again Ladies,
Had to run out and take care of some errands this afternoon. This morning I woke up just before 7 and heard the rain just pouring down and thunder clapping. I decided to get dressed and drive the hubby to his bus stop so he wouldn't have to walk the half mile in the pouring rain!!! I got the Christmas gifts mailed off to sailor son and dil in NV. I don't know if I told anyone here but my dil is expecting our first grandbaby in June!!! They are both so happy!!! My dil is such a ladybug lover and I found the cutest baby swaddling blanket and knit cap that looks like a lady bug. Could not resit getting it for her!!!!

Pat,
I leave for OH this Sunday. Will drive halfway to VA and spend the night and continue the rest of the drive on Monday.

Blondie,
My daughter was telling me about all the lousy weather she's having there also. She was walking at the college at the time she was on the phone to me and told me it was snowing!!!! She only had a sweatshirt on because this morning it was nice and sunny!!! Pretty soon she'll be breaking out the heavy coat, scarfs, hat, gloves and reminding me how much she hates Ohio in the winter!!!!

Good afternoon. Snow was forecast for this afternoon but it arrived, big time, before lunch. I guess we are settled in for the day!

Pat did you check into flying into San Diego? That worked when I went out there.

My dad opened Navy Federal CU accounts for all of us several years ago. We really like them because they are so easy to deal with on the phone ... I have no clue where the closest branch even is. There is free banking on-line. Also, if you have a debit card, you can get cash at grocery stores. Just make a small purchase and get cash back. We do that all the time. Our local grocery is our "bank." We do have a small account at a local bank and can get larger sums with our debit card there. Our funds come in to NFCU or our brokerage account which is located in San Francisco. That has never been a problem for us. Our credit cards are through NFCU and we have used them world-wide.

Joanne, V. had no clue about Japan until it popped up. Right now her cousin is living stateside but his in-laws live in Japan. I also have some friends in Japan.

Jane,
Back when my husband and I were both military the Navy Federal Credit Union was only for officers and higher enlisted sailors. Then one year they opened up enrollment to member's family members. So Steve got accounts for me and all our kids. Best thing ever. We still use NFCU for all our banking. Plus they have super rates on loans. We had our mortgage with them, all our car loans and our regular Visa accounts. You just can't go wrong with them. And my daughter has gone over on her spending a few times and they just give her an advance and then pay it off when she gets her next paycheck. Plus they do have arrangements with several other banks across the US that they will let you take money from the ATM and not get hit with any fees for using non-NFCU banks. They are opening more and more branch locations because they now will open accounts with any military - army, marine, etc... And any Navy base should have a NFCU branch.
Boy - I should get a kick back for all this wonderful endorsement I'm giving them!!!!! he-he

Good evening! I'm behind again. Comment on changing reservations ... Southwest doesn't charge to do that. Makes them a good airline if they are close by.

V. called today. At first she said she was going to Whidby Island. All her dream list was east coast so this was a change but you know the Navy. One of her A School classmates (1st in class) asked for Whidby and got Norfolk. V. asked for Norfolk and got Whidby. Then she calls back. She didn't read the orders carefully enough. She does have Whidby Island ... for C School and then on to Japan. She always did say she wanted to travel ... it's just that she wanted Europe or Africa. LOL.

I have a nephew who dearly loves Japan. He started grade school there in a Japanese school. Always said he would return and he did as an exchange student. He met a Japanese young lady, married her and they have lived in both Japan and the US. He is currently an airline pilot with hopes to get on to JAL someday. He has become bi-lingual.

NavyMom,
I love your fireplace - it looks like something right out of a postcard!!
But I have to correct your comment about Mother Navy. IF the Navy was run by a woman it would not change orders at the last minute - knowing how "children" react to sudden, unplanned changes. There also wouldn't be delays in the 'homecomings" because Mothers know they have to get their "children" home in time. Problems would be handled swiftly and completely - and fairly because Mothers don't chose one child over another. Medical issues would be dealt with quickly because you don't mess with a Mother's sick child.

No - I think this is Daddy Navy!!!!!!!!! :) lol

Karen,
If you rebook the flight will you be able to cancel it if you need to or do you have to pay for the tickets when you book? I agree with the other comments - if she already passed her run then it shouldn't matter if she has to run again. First of all, are her ankles completely healed so she doesn't re-injure them? If she was just pushed back for a later PIR and not put on medical hold then she should graduate on her new PIR date. But again, she has to pass the run portion of her PT test before she graduates. I know it's tough getting info - I wonder if you can find someone to call by going to the bc website and just explaining that you need to make travel arrangements and you're needing some definitive info. Might be worth a try . . . .
