Good morning!

Pat, I'm glad that Jenn can finally set up an appointment time. Hopefully, she will find out some definitive answers!

The sun can't make up its mind about whether or not it will shine. It doesn't matter really because I have many things to do to get ready to head out to San Diego.

If we are like this now girlfriend what are we going to be like for the next week or 2?

Sherry, I have a daughter who is 2 weeks from PIR (pass in review) or what the Navy calls graduation. The ups and downs of the next 8 or so weeks can be very stressful. You got the box, now you wait for the official letter, you wait for phone calls at any time during the day, but almost don't want to hear because the saying is no news is good news. Then you start getting mail but that takes about 3 plus weeks. Thursday is usually the day that mailcarriers around the states are stalked by Navy bootcamp moms, later your daughter will be allowed to write on tuesday and thursdays too, but that is not until about week 5. We go through ups and downs, anxiety, concerns we have no control over. My daughter is 22, has been out of the country for months at a time. But the first call I got almost broke my heart. We have to be supportive, but strong. A hard combination when you hear the break in their voice, you just want to hug them tight and keep them safe.
Ok, this is one of my tougher days, I did hear from her this week, but I also know how hard of a week this is expected to be for her. Tests, inspections, health all are on my mind while she goes through it. I know she is tough and I will be honest with you it has made me tougher too. My biggest suggestion is start writing now, send something daily if you can. Write about the dog missing her or something funny a sibling said or that you saw a friend of hers at so, and so. We are the biggest fans of our girls and their greatest means of support.Yes, my letters rambled, but it kept her connected and feeling loved everytime her name was called at mail time. I hope this helps all you new moms. Good Luck and we are here to help just as those who have been here before me have been so helpful.

Cherlm, Enjoy the next nine months with your daughter. It is a very special time. You will love cuddling that new baby. Stay with us. You will learn a lot!

Good thoughts, Marlo. Our children/grandchildren do need to fly. Hopefully you taught them (and they learned) to fly well.

It is a very chilly, sunny day.

Lisa,

Check out the price for renting a GPS system vs. purchasing. Sometimes it costs about half (or more) the price of purchasing one. At that point you might as well purchase one and take it with you.

The pillowcase group has made pillowcases for everyone on board the USS NY. They will be presented sometime in December.

I did see that SD has an Apple store. Now I need to get there!

KR, I'm sorry you can't make it. I guess you'll have to come our way.

Don't forget you still have that surprise lurking at PIR. Wish I could be there to share it with you my friend.

Thanks, Joanne. I looked it up. It is along way! Over three hours of driving and I won't have a car.:-) It is north of Long Beach. SD is close to the Mexican border.

Pat, I am counting down! Our grandson has a litle more than 12 hours left in the Crucible. Somehow having a hill call "The Reaper" at the end of it is sobering! There is a Navy Mom on this list whose son left for Marine BC the same day as Bryce. He went to Parris Island and there they begin the Crucible tomorrow. I am so glad that Bryce will be finishing up about the time they begin! Assuming all goes well, this time tomorrow night, he will be a Marine!

There are so many things that are coming up as we approach the holidays. So today, I worked on our Christmas card/letter. That took care of an afternoon.

My space bar is acting up. It's driving me crazy. I wish there were an Apple store nearby. Maybe there is one in SD. I'll have to look.
