me2anavymom,

Back when my daughter went through MEPS and went to the airport heading to GL, she was told many times that she had to give her phone to us before she got on that plane.  We got to wait with her and she was able to text friends right up until the time she had to board the plane.  Then she forgot and left her phone in her pocket.  Suddenly I see her running back up the ramp calling me and waving her phone!!!!  I got one extra last hug!!!!  Now tho they are allowed to keep their phones all the way to GL and then have to put them in the box with their clothes to send back home.  They really don't have secure storage at boot so you don't want them keeping their phones during boot.  Now you have to watch for the form letter which will have her address  and her PIR date.  Keep us posted when you get to hear from her!!!  Always keep your cell phone with you - you never know when she might get to make a call home!!!!

momof3,

How exciting for both of you.  I have to admit - April will be here before you know it!!!  Just make lots of good memories now spend all the time with her you can.  Let her know how proud you are of her (how proud we all are of our sailor daughters!!!)  And just remember, we will be here for you when that date suddenly arrives!!!  Stay in touch!!!

NavyTwins,

Welcome!  I will be sending you a personal welcome message on your page.  Yes, there is a ton of information to learn but you won't be able to learn it all at once.  You have lots of time and there will always be more info coming your way.  Right now you just need to worry about the important bootcamps terms.  PIR is graduation, stands for Pass In Review,  BS is Battle Stations, the last big test all the divisions have to go through before they graduate.  If there are other terms you hear and aren't familiar with just ask - someone will know!!!!!

JayDee,

Glad you get to work from home!!  Stay safe and warm!!

Me2anaavymom - something I did find out is that when she'd call (which truly was only  2 times until she passed battllle stations) she would  tell me something that would get me all worried.  I'd think about it and wonder if I could do anything to help.  Then when she''d call me back it wa like water under the briddge and I had been worrying about nothing.  It was hard for me to let go and reaalize that she's a big girll and could handle it.

Oh okay, her recuiter had said she would be able to keep it up there. But it's okay, I haven't turned it on yet. But thanks for replying, I'm just holding on to everything I can read. God got this, but the mama bear still wants control... Lol!

Me2anavymom its my understanding that the phones always come home. I've read that some quick thinking kids even leave text for their parents on them (mine didn't but its kind of cool). In any case getting the phone is completely the norm. Once they get to A school they can have the phone. My daughter started calling me while I was driving home from PIR with a list of things to send her. :)

Received the box today. Came fed ex air. Our family is holding on with lots of prayers and support from this and other groups. Just wanted to update everyone. I was surprised that her phone came back after being told she would be able to keep it.

Good Morning!! Hoping to connect,
I have video of the 01/05/2016 swearing in at MEPS in Portland, OR. If you have a female recruit who swore in on that day with my son, I would love to share it with you. Send me a friend request and include her first name so that I know I have the correct family. Thanks

Good morning everyone! Hunkered down this morning at home. They're supposed to get up to 12" of snow just south of us. Only about 5" her at home. I think my office is deserted today as everyone has opted to work from home instead of possibly getting snowed in at the office. My sister in law is our receptionist and they send her home with a laptop to control the switchboard. With facilities in 24 locations across the US, Canada and Mexico we have to stay in touch. I'm thankful they give us the work from home option. Everyone stay safe!
