Hello, I just joined the group. My daughter just joined and is scheduled to ship in December. This is also new to all of us and while she is taking it all in stride I am feeling a bit overwhelmed...happy for her because it's what she wants but tremendously sad that she will be leaving us for a while. Hoping to find some support and help in figuring out to navigate through all this.

Hi everyone Anna, no the Butte fire is not "out". It is at 93% containment. All evacuation orders and advisories have been lifted. FEMA is here! 475 residences and 343 outbuildings were destroyed and 42 structures were damaged  by the fire.

Sarahsmom,

Sorry your girl is homesick!!  My Catherine was a young 18 when she enlisted also.  She did fine, a few struggles here and there but nothing serious.  She grew up so much and is just about to graduate from Penn State this December.  She completed all her requirements in 3 years.  Talk about self-discipline!!

Both of my girls are my youngest since there's only two minutes between the two of them.  I still miss them - I miss all the stuff we used to do together.  Now I have to wait a year or more to go serious mall shopping.  They joke that they want to get me a wheelchair because now I start to slow them down a little!!!!!!

Jean,

Your time should mean you have a few more hours to go and then it's the WEEKEND!!!!!  Hope it goes quickly for you.

Hope everyone has a fantastic weekend and gets to hear from their sailor.  My sailor son is having all their household stuff packed and moved today.  They spend a couple more days in Norfolk and then report to Hawaii on Tuesday!!!  All three of them have come down with strep throat over the last two days!!  At least they should all be on antibiotics long enough to feel much better by the time that 9 1/2 hour flight!!!!!!

Good morning everyone, Happy Friday!

Blondie, enjoy your well deserved long weekend.

My Sailor is also my baby. Still hard to be so far away from her after 5 years. I don't know what I would do without all of you here.

Blondie, when my mom passed, we found a chest full of cards, and letters too. Us moms are just that way. Lol
I have all of my girls letters too.

Hope everyone has a good weekend, hope you all get to talk to your sailors.

sarahsmom, praying for your girl, sorry she is so homesick. Hugs to you both. My girl is 30 and still gets homesick. But It just means they love us a lot.

Anna, Academically she is doing great in A school but she is very homesick. As the baby she was very spoiled by her siblings as well as mom and dad. She just turned 18 and is a young 18 so is a bit overwhelmed with choices and so much freedom. She liked the structure of bootcamp. But, she will adjust and do well. I just miss her so much. I try not to let her know because I have a lot of health issues and she already worries about me too much.
