Hi all, Happy Saturday,

Hellraiser, Many people these days have forget how to send real letters in the snail mail. I asked older adults at my church who still knew the art of letter writing. Chrissy got a lot of cards and letters, She actually told me she missed getting them after BC.

Blondie, I agree not the same as going to college. This site was a lifesaver for me during BC, A school and deployments.

roliesom, Congrats on PIR.

Mamabear, don't send priority mail. Anything that stands out they will get teased for and maybe punished.

Your daughter is no longer yours, she belongs to the Navy now. The reason for limited communication is a psychology one. They break them down in order to build them up and make them sailors. The Navy is not just  a job, it is a lifestyle, They must learn to work as a team and obey orders. It is for their own safety and the safety of everyone involved.  I know it is hard for us Moms, but we can't do anything to help. Our children have to do this on their own. You  have to let her go  trust that you raised her right and  she has the skills to do this. When you get to PIR and see the doors roll up and she marches in, you will be proud.

Thanks to everyone on the hotel door decoration advice. Sorry for the misunderstanding about it all. So besides decorations for the hotel door and PIR ribbons( those are just small lapel type ribbons to wear to the ceremony right?), are there any other traditions that this mama should know about?

Hi Ladies! No box today but my husband got a "Proud Navy Dad" coffee mug in the mail today. It took him a few minutes to figure out that our daughter ordered it right before she left for boot camp. He was really touched that she did that for him. :-)

Blondie... Don't worry I'm not taking signs to PIR, I promise! :-) I was thinking about decorating the hotel room door. :-)

My apologies...I thought you were talking about when she comes home or off deployment. Anyhow, they still do great work.

Julyasmom: signs or banners are not allowed at PIR, the parking attendants will have you put it back in your car. Hotels however will let you decorate the outside of your room door, check with them first.

Julyasmom...go to buildasign on web. They offer military free signs or banners...just pay postage. They let you design it using their templates...awesome products...everyone should use them for signage needs. Hope this info gets to all of you interested in making signs/banners.
Don't forget to wear red today...Have a great weekend!

Ok Ladies... I have been looking at ideas for door banners for PIR...yes I need all 8 weeks to think about this! :-). I was just wondering if there are colors or anything else I should avoid or use?

MamaBear: my prayers are with you. When my daughter got her teeth pulled in BC she healed quit nicely. She said, she didn't have alot of pain, which was a relief for me! Even though the dentist had a hard time taking one tooth out, he had told her, you must have alot of minerals in the water where you come from and she told him yeah, lol. I imagined her all swollen and unable to eat, on the contrary she was eating soft foods the next day, if I remember correctly:) The dentists are awesome at what they do and they all take care of each other. I know it's hard being away from her at this time, so dear on my prayers are with you both. Navy mom hugs!
