Oleander, that is so terrific.  Happy BIRTHday to You and your daughter.

Oleander that's wonderful! Oh to see those faces, even though they're far from home it helps bridge the distance. Hugs to your sailor on her birthday and hugs to you. I think it's harder for us than them.

Did anyone else have their daughter ship out on Tuesday the 2nd? My daughter and one other girl were the only two Navy leaving from Harrisburg out of 56! Hooyah!

Oleander,  I love technology. I was able to "talk" to my son all of the time when he was deployed! If I didn't hear from him in a certain amount of timtime r, I knew he was in a black out area.

Ladies!!!! I just have to share --- last night I got to text AND factime with my deployed sailor!!! And it was her 23rd birthday (their time)!!!!! I cannot begin to tell you how incredible it was to see her face and hear her voice. I still have goosebumps and tears in my eyes.

Thanks for being here and letting me share! xoxo

I hope you're feeling better JayDee!

krikris,

So happy you got that call from your girl!!!!  I hope your next 20 days go by quickly and you will be sitting there at PIR!!!!!

DoubleNavyMom,

Thank you for your kind and encouraging words!!  I am so glad that you feel the love and support we share with each other!!

JayDee,

So sorry you are not feeling your beautiful best!!!  Hope you get better real soon, and happy birthday wishes to your hubby!!!  Safe travels!!!

MomofMegan,

Sorry I don't have any info for your regarding S-PACT but I agree with Mashinka and Oleander about staying in contact with the recruiter to keep on top of opportunities.  The recruiters don't have the whole picture about what is available.  They check in with the detailers - they are the people who know what is available and what isn't.  In the end, at the final swearing in, it's the detailer that will put your daughter in a rating or not.  Just ask the recruiter to periodically check availabilities.

Thank you Mashinka!!

Yes JayDee I've known a couple of undesignated but I'm afraid I really don't have much to add here other than describing what those 2 sailors experienced. One went in undesignated, was assigned to the ship my daughter is on. After a couple of years she struck for the rate she'd wanted and amazingly got it! The other sailor was in a special ops program and unfortunately had to quit. He became undesignated and was eventually "fit" into a rate the navy needed -  nothing he would have chosen.

MomofMegan -Recruiters don't always have the best knowledge or info - I agree with Mashinka and hope your daughter is able to clearly communicate what she wants. Our daughter was her recruiter's 1st recruit -- let's just say had she been with a more seasoned person things might have been different.

Jaydee, prayers that you feel better fast.
Unfortunately, I know nothing about undesignated either.
Yes, definitely needs of the Mavy...what a nice way to say it.
Prayers for all sailors near and far...and families too. I almost think it's harder being a mom than sailor, they are kept so busy they don't have time to think...like us. Happy New Year to all!

DoubleNavyMom, that empty spot at church reminds me that she's with me in spirit.

MomofMegan, I don't know anything about going undesignated. There has been some discussion on a couple groups and there might be a group.

Oleander, do I remember that you knew someone who was going undesignated?

Last night I arranged a surprise dinner for my husband's birthday and then before I could even order, the stomach bug sent me home. I've lost one full day. Thank goodness for a doctor friend who called some phenogren in for me. We're supposed to leave tomorrow, with all 3 dogs, to drive 12 hours for our Christmas with our sailor and college daughters. Oh boy...

Happy New Year to all my Navy Moms❤️

JayDee ~ your sweet story of saving a seat in church for your daughter just broke me. I cried a few selfish tears but also several for those who are also missing their sailors.

Anna ~ I have thought of you & your daughter a lot as my best friend’s daughter was also abandoned 3 weeks before Christmas & was financially forced to move home. Not ea aptly how a mom wants to see her daughter. Faith & love get us through. Solid support & a safe place to land when life knocks them down is all any of us can give.

My sailor in hostile territory is trying to be optimistic that her next assignment will be better. Needs of the Navy, right?

Even though we may never meet, I am so very grateful to all of you here on this site for kindness & unwavering support.
