Hello Everyone,
Luckily we have a little bit of snow maybe 2 inches. The major roads are still bare so that is nice. I heard on the news that Lake County, where we used to live, is getting hammered with lake effect snow but not down here in the Akron area!!! Yeah!!! I don't mind snow in moderation - but having to shovel it just makes me hurt too much anymore now. I just pray for mild weather events, be it snow, rain or whatever so travelers can get home safely for the holidays. I want my hubby to be able to come up this way for both Christmas and New Years, and of course, any servicemembers traveling for the holidays!!!

Blondie,
You showed me some beautiful pictures of your family and I also would love to see more!!!! Maybe you could put some on your page for a few days so we could go see them and then you can take them off.

DC,
I'm with you - I LOVE the quiet that the snowfall creates. And being inside looking out everything is just peaceful and serene. I do miss having a fireplace!!

Catherine,
Good to hear from you again. I hope you are all safe and and warm. Did everyone get to dig out from the snow that got dumped on you???

NavyMom and Joanne,
Hope all is well with you!!

How's Pat doing?!?!?

KR, I am just the opposite of you. I always LOVED the snow. As a kid, I loved the silence of snow. I frequently could tell it was snowing if I awoke in the middle of the night because there was such a hush to the world. Once when I lived in Kansas, I was standing in front of the window looking to see if it had started snowing yet. My boss came in, saw me and said, "Stop wishing right now!" I am sad to see winter leave. At 80 I have moved indoors to the AC.

Now I much preferred a Nebraska winter to a Kansas winter. In Nebraska, it snowed about Thanksgiving and we did not see the road in front of our house until about March. It was a real winter. In Kansas, we had lovely snow, then ice/slush, ice/sluch until it was time for the next snow. Black ice was a scary thing.

Isn't it nice that there are differences regionally in the climate. That way people who like winter can live where there is snow, etc., and others, like you an Pat, can enjoy warm winters.

Blondie, it would be fun to see the pictures. Maybe someday you will be able to post some that are acceptable. You know what, we will enjoy them later as much as now.

We got about 5 inches of snow.

It is SNOWING outside. My husband came in around 10 to announce there were flurries and he wanted me to quit what I was doing so I could go with him to pick a tree. He had the Gator out waiting for me. We drove up the lane about 30 feet to look at the first tree. The ground was white. Drove to the farmhouse, about 700 feet away, went inside for about 10 minutes. When we came out there was over a half inch. So much for possible snow showers. Decided the first tree would work fine. He cut it, put it into the garage where it will stand until the snow melts from the branches. Times like these I'm glad we splurged for a heated garage! It is still coming down and we have about two inches on the ground. It is a good day to stay in.

Blondie, maybe we don't do stupid because we have common sense. I sometimes think people have lost sight of common sense!

Good morning! Pat, I am so glad to hear that you made it safe and sound. Anytime a flight is uneventful, it is a good flight. We ate at the Brazilian steakhouse when I was in SD for my grandson's BC graduation. Believe me, they did not make money on him! We kidded him that he had to be careful or he would not fit into his new uniforms.

My SIL in Virginia called to say she had a foot of snow on the ground and that it was coming down at the rate of two inches an hour! I wonder how much we are going to get. Frequently a storm will come up the coast and go out to sea at Boston or so. What we have to worry about is if it turns around and then we get a nor'easter. That dumps the snow on us. Better go shopping so we have basics to eat for a few days.

Where are you going to move to, Joanne?

Joanne, when I am going to e-mail a picture, I usually save it to the desktop so I can find it quickly and easily. If you are using your regular e-mail, you can send it as an attachment. I have not figured out how to send attachments on the N4M site. You can post a picture in here if you want by using the camera that is the rightmost option just above here.

Blondie, I think I mentioned that one year my cat crawled into the empty manger. That year I was putting a piece up each Sunday of Advent with baby Jesus going in on Christmas Eve. She decided that she would serve as the "blessed child."

Since V. got her orders to Whidby/Japan, I have learned/remembered that she has family at Whidby. Two of her cousins live there with their Mom and my SIL is very anxious for V. to get to know them. She thinks that V. will be a good role model because she also grew up with divorced family. Another is a cousin who is married to a Naval officer. So she will fit right in. I do hope she is not assigned to the Naval officer's squadron!

Blondie, I love the idea of planting a tree at the school. It is an enduring reminder. What would be great is if the community could develop a small remembrance park at the school. A small plaque in memory of the girls could be placed there and a bench where people could pause. It would draw attention to the tree, the memorial and perhaps remind students that they are vulnerable. Taking care when driving and staying vigilant is imperative.

Many years ago we lived in Emporia, Kansas. There is a park, Peter Pan Park, which was developed in memory of a young girl who never grew up. She was killed in a horseback riding accident. She had died many years before we moved there but we frequently enjoyed the park. We would sometimes stop to re-read her memorial and remember the young lady who once lived in Emporia. Perhaps something similar on a smaller scale could be developed for these young girls over time.

Now to get caught up with everyone
Pat,
I hope you're getting some rest - I know I can never sleep well the night before I leave for a trip - even if it's a driving one! It's like I can't relax until I get started!!! At least you can rest up on the plane and be ready to go when you land!!!! Looking forward to updates on your visit. Have a very, very safe trip!!!

Again Blondie,
My sympathies to you and your family for yet more losses to deal with. Especially at this time of the year when we reach out to dear friends and family. My prayers all with you all.

Glad to hear everyone else is doing well. Welcome to our new moms. Ditto to the previous information about looking for a group with your daughters Div # or when you get her PIR date, there are most times groups of moms with the same date. Also you can check in with the Boot Camp Moms group. But stay wtih us also and let us get to know you and your sailor. I saw a couple other new moms in a discussion above - join in also and let us get to know you!!

Wow, today has been a busy day. I had so much fun having lunch with Blondie. Unfortunately I was 10 minutes late because I was at the recruiting office with my daughter Jennifer and then she came with me to meet Blondie. It was just a longer drive than I gave it credit for but when I walked into Panera Bread I recognized Blondie by her blond hair. Ladies, let me tell you she is just as sweet in person as she is on here!!! I loved hearing all about her small community and the pictures of her children!!! Her sailor daughter has the most beautiful blue eyes!!! They just jump out of the pictures at you. Such a beautiful young lady - even in her camos holding that rather large weapon!!! No more info than that!!!! I could have spent all afternoon visiting. I had a few pictures to show but unfortunatley most of my pics are on discs or on my computer - I need to get some of them printed. Blondie had a beautiful US Navy scrap book. Then she kept telling me she isn't a scrapbooker!!! RIGHT!!!!!
After we left Blondie my daughter and I stopped to visit a friend of hers and then did some shopping (the best kind where I actually didn't buy anything, but we did alot of looking!!!) and then stopped and got some dinner. We just got home a short time ago!!!! What a wonderful fun day.
