You are among the lucky ones Anna, but you have also paid your dues so I hope you don't have to wait for Medicare:).

Asking for prayers for my Officer daughter who is going up for her qualification.  I can't explain what exactly this is except she calls it "siso".  It has to do with the job she has but I don't know much about what she does since it's so classified.  Anyhow, she has Boards Friday morning, a "QualSim" Monday morning and then her checkride later Monday.  This will all last several hours so just think kind thoughts for her Friday and Monday.

And my veteran daughter has been working in an employment office for the last 6 months and is going up for a big promotion already.  The others in her office are so amazed at how fast she picks up on all the aspects of her job and want to promote her to recruiter.  She meets with the big boss, owner of the company, on Friday morning also.  So proud of my girls!!

Oleander,

As I walk through the VA hospitals,  I see so many young men and women missing limbs and I remind myself that yes, I may be living in a lot of pain but I can still walk on my own two legs and use both my arms.  I don't suffer from PTSD, so I consider myself pretty lucky!!!  I know I am not a priority in the VA and I believe I just have to be patient and jump through all their little hoops!!!  Worse case scenario, I have to wait one more year until I qualify for Medicare and try to go that route.  Might have to set up a go fund me page to pay for it!!!!!

lahrrh92,

Somewhere I read another post about sailors keeping their phones locked up during bootcamp and being able to use them for calls home.  This may be a test program RTC is trying.  All you can do is wait until her "kid in a box" comes home and see if her phone is in there.  If they do get to keep them they're all going to need someone send their charges to them!!!!!

SailorMoon,

There is another mom on here that is from the Laguna Beach.  She doesn't post much anymore on here but maybe she still reads!!!

Love the idea of wearing our phones around our necks.  Wish I knew about that!!!  Sorry about everyone's storms, we finally got to a part of the country that isn't having wild spring storms, tornadoes, floods, etc. . .

Anna and Oleander - we are 3-4 hours north of San Diego but the coast of California is beautiful and weather is perfect...but yes so very expensive! We grew up here and our families are here...really family is the only thing that keeps us here now.. I can't see us retiring here! Our oldest doesn't plan on settling here once he finishes school and who knows where our SR will end up...we shall see where we land when the time is right! ;)

Yep, we got everything back in The Box including bra and phone. Daughter is also well-endowed, and I hoped they had made, hmmm, "allowances" for that. But she's very, very happy and mentioned no concerns about clothing even though she was very, very specific about what she'd wear before Basic.  I have this thing from Amazon to let me wear my phone around my neck so even an errand to the basement won't make me miss the call.  BUT from what I've heard, regular calls only come on weekends.  We've had two, and she shipped out on April 26.  Dughter's division got an iPad after 4 weeks with access to email only from family bet 0700-1300 on Sundays.  Don't know if that's standard. It goes quickly, but keep yourself busy!

lahrrh92 phones come home in "the box".  My daughter was told that she might be able to keep her sports bras since she's rather well endowed, but nope, they were in the box too.  When your daughter is allowed to call home it will most likely come from an 847 area code so watch for it.  And for heaven's sake, don't EVER put your phone down or turn off the ringer as they can't always call back, and there's not returning the call.

My daughter ships out on Monday.  Recruiter told us today they keep their phones locked up at boot camp so if they earn time to call they use their phones.  Has anyone received "The Box" lately and was your sailor's cell in it?  Just confused and trying to make sure I have good information.

Thanks! :)

We had a huge storm come through Monday evening.  It did a lot of damage but brought with it a cold front.  Our days are in the 80's and nights in the upper 50's and 60's.  At least for now the humidity is low so we're enjoying it while we can.  Looks like hot and crappy is back in the forecast after next week.
