Oh, and southwest let her take her seabag (not full) as a carry on !  They also will allow extra bags when they are flying on orders (free of charge).

Blondie - Just as a heads up on how good they can be. She came from Virginia to San Jose, CA and her fare would have been $1300 due to the last minute approval for leave, but we got her fare for $375, so this is a very good one to know !  Plus, since she left from a big airport the wait time for TSA was 40 minutes (even at 4:00 am) and she got to zip through the 5 minute "Pre check TSA" line which took only a minute, so she was sipping tea checked in near her gate while people stood in line. It was really nice and all you have to do is have Southwest put their DOD number from their military card in their Southwest profile and they will always get pre-check.  At airports like Chicago - could save them 2 hours ! I highly recommend taking advantage of the precheck and the military flight costs.  I haven't checked Delta, American or United yet, so don't know policy.  Southwest was cheapest flying from the east and is cheapest to fly to San Diego while in California, so I thought it best to put all her miles in one place if possible, plus they let Military board first :-).  They for sure earned our business, seemed like they gave the biggest discount when I phoned.

Blondie,

It was a downed tree that took out the power!!!

Najul,

Thanks so much for that information!!  I never knew that!!!

great info Najul, thank you!

oh, and the fares are good for ANY travel they have, doesn't have to be on government business, can be leisure travel.

Comment by Najul on July 20, 2016 at 1:23pm

Hi all, it's been a while.  Just wanted to share for any NEWBIES that Southwest has military fares if you call.  We saved 50% for my daughters flight from the East to the West and if you enter their DOD number from the back of their military card you can get them TSA pre-check security line (the box where you enter it says "known traveler" or something like that).  She's just in A school, so it's fine to use this discount while in A school or C school.  Just wanted to let everyone know in case your kid recently graduated bootcamp like mine.

MartiB,

I'll let you know when we get to WA and how long we will be staying!!!!!

Blondie,

Keeping them in my prayers!!!

We got into Ohio and had a campground right on the bank of the Ohio River. It was very pretty until the storm came through and we lost all power!!!  Sad thing was we were right across the river from a big power plant on the WV side!!!  We sat in the dark with just a little candle because we only have one 12volt battery and we needed that to keep our refrigerator running on propane. Oh and we had no water since the campground uses well water!!!!  Power didn't come back on until 3am, 7 hours later!!!!!  But we are safely here with our son and family!!!  Enjoying our time with our granddaughter!!  Boy does she have the energy level!!!  And talks ALL THE TIME!!!! Even when she was finally in bed last night she talked to herself for another 45 minutes!!!  Some of her expressions are so adorable!!!! We have started the spoiling process!!!!!!

bbcregular,

One thing we discovered with having all our tire problems, our trailer is overweight!!!  We found a cat scale that the big trucks use and weighed truck and trailer and then had the truck weighed separately.  So when we get up to our storage unit in northeast Ohio we are going to drop off some things that we just haven't used since we moved in our trailer.  That should help.  Hubby has also been doing tons of research on the load index of the tires.  For the gross vehicle weight of the trailer empty,  there are no tires made that will add up to that weight!!!!  In order to completely solve the problem we would have to go to a larger sized tire, which means getting all new axles, springs, rims, and tires!!!!  This was the way our trailer was manufactured!!!!  How stupid!!!  So we are going to try to lighten our load and see if that helps.  It's a shame we end up learning all this stuff after we bought the trailer!!!!  We just assumed the size of tires would be properly rated for the size and weight of the trailer - - - not!!!!!  And yes, double check tire pressure and make sure you have a really good quality tire gauge!!!!  And check where your hydraulic lines run, (if you have hydraulics).  The first tire blow out we had tore up the hydraulic lines that ran along the side, right by the tires.  We had a small scrap of metal welded on that side, right in front of the tires, to make sure no future blowouts can damage the lines.  We also seem to learn things the hard way!!!!!

Oh Blondie I'm so sorry! They are in my prayers as well as your daughter and the surgical team. Please keep us updated on her surgery and recovery.
