Oleander  sailor and whales, what a great package! I could use some desert about now. Love the cold, could do without the snow. It's supposed to be 60 here this weekend. Mother Nature must be going through menopause.

Comment by Oleander on January 30, 2019 at 11:33am

OMGoodness you guys! I remember those frigid temps well from my 16 years in NH -- hence living in the desert! Please stay safe out there and JayDee I'm so sorry to hear you got hurt!

Congratulations on your 1st letter Jen! I saved all the letters between my daughter and me, have been thinking about making a book out of them - a little time capsule of her life. I'll get it done some day lol!

Hang in there Thomas, your letter's coming!

Got a chance to see my sailor last weekend in San Diego. We went whale watching on an RIB, saw 5 whales which included 2 mothers w/their babies, about a hundred dolphins, even a sea lion surfing a wave right next to our boat. Amazing weekend! Got lots of hugs to last til the next time.

Yeah we got the snow yesterday around noon, I left it to cover the ice for traction.  My dog has been in and out since Saturday, he wants to be out but same thing he'll start limping and I make him come in as soon as he gets the ice out of his paws, he's right back out.  He has plenty of hair and loves the cooler weather.  At least 8 counties (that I know of) canceled, schools, mail etc.  but of course we're still open, even stranger we Have patients!  Crazy.   Last I looked we were at  -7 with wind chill -36.

Comment by JayDee659 on January 30, 2019 at 10:09am

Blondie, we're at 2 with a wind chill of -16.  Even I admit that's cold.  My patrol friend at Boston/Mills Brandywine told me last night that they were closed down today because of your weather.  Paoli closed right afterwards, guess since we're all Peaks resorts it was a corp decision.

We got snow on top of the cold.  I was so happy this morning because my car started right up.  Then when I was going down the steps, I slipped and twisted my back.  I'm home enjoying muscle relaxers today.  The dogs just had to go out to pee.  Coco came running back in but Bambi did not.  I finally saw her limping around the corner, guess her paws were too cold.  I coaxed her in and warmed her up and she's now fine.  This cold is nothing to mess with.

Thomas, it's been 4 years but we got our first call in two weeks, right before the letters showed up.  When we got our PIR form letter, she'd scrawled notes in the margins to us so that was cool.  Sometimes my daughter missed her time to call home or write for one of two reasons, first she had to stand watch.  The second reason was because she was a yoeman and had duties to perform that sometimes took away that time.  It's hard to convince ourselves of this, but honestly, no news is good news.  You'll hear from her soon!

Jenn, so glad to hear she's doing well.  We all have our ups and downs no matter how many years it's been, that's why we call it a roller coaster ride.  Just hang on!  It's a ride of a life time. :)  I confess when I would get my daughters letters, I'd read them in her voice, I mean to say, I swear I could "hear" her tell me, it was like she was there talking to me, not just me reading her words. Anyone else?

Thomas, it's been a few years (12) but they could write on Sundays of course the 1st week was crazy busy for them,  exams, shots, hair cuts, getting routines.....I'd say 2 or 3 weeks.  Back then they could "earn" phone calls too. But if their squad was doing poorly or people acting up/out they would loss privileges, I'm not sure they do this now. ALOT has changed.  Hang in there, It's hard on us because we're sitting here thinking/worrying about them but they are so busy!

-4 (-32) here, but I made it to work :)

How many weeks before you received your first letter from your recruit ?
Comment by JayDee659 on January 29, 2019 at 8:19pm

Jen that first letter is wonderful, isn't it? I was so relieved to hear from her. It's all down hill from here, you've made it through the toughest part of boot camp.

Comment by Jen on January 29, 2019 at 7:19pm

I received my first letter from my daughter today from boot camp. It was so so good to hear from her. I been having ups and downs since she left it was great to read she was doing well with the physical part and the studying part.

Comment by Blondie on January 29, 2019 at 12:18pm

JayDee just be safe out there.  We have negative temps and wind chills as low as minus 35. They are warning  no more then 10 mins. outside.  Keep a full tank of gas and go no where alone.

My Biggest fear was if both daughter and SIL got deployed at the same who'd raise T?!  So really happy daughter decided to separate, not sure she's totally happy. but it's what's best for them now.  she went to school and has her billing/coding certificate, and Associate in Office management and will graduate with her BS in Medical Records.....something, something. So she will be employable on any base with a hospital/clinic/doctor.....  So glad your daughter will be in for awhile.  Sounds like me excited to get growing!  this will be good for them.  Will you be able to visit?
