Hi Tinat, I just got off the phone with my daughter who has been at A school for about 7 weeks. She purchased an internet plan for $25-$30 per month. She said it's more than enough for what she uses it for (Netflix, Hulu, surfing the net, etc.) She said they do have free wifi in some areas, but if you want to use your electronics in your room, the per-month purchase plan is the way to go. She signed up for it the first week she was there, quick and easy to do. I hope this helps, congrats on your soon to be Sailor!
hi there ladies. um i just wanted to know basic engineering school is how long?
mine had his PIR mid Oct...6 years ago, but for him he had the weekend off with me, then the started BECC, (Basic Engineering... ) then when a class was available he started his HT A school. I think he was in one of the first go at your pace class type structure. (they had a time frame to complete the class in but could go fast/slow within that time frame). There was also the wait for the next class he needed to start. But his first duty assignment was on a ship in San Diego early March. I think he had a break during Christmas were we went and got him, and had him back by a specific time. His sister was in college in Chicago at the time and we live in Omaha. so the 8 hour drive was doable for us. Keep in mind ladies there is nothing for sure in the Navy...everything happens on their need schedule.
Just a quick note to the new HT moms here - my son did PIR on Oct 21, 2011 and A school at GL, until Feb. 28th. They did have off for the Christmas stand down, and he came home for about 8 days ( he had watch, so he couldn't leave earlier) . He also came home after A school, before he left for his first command, in San Diego. We live in NJ.
He is now on the USS Boxer and really enjoys his job. He's HT3 now and hoping to be HT2 later this year. They will be deploying in late August (his first!).
Sorry to be so quick - i don't want to be late for the Navy Moms lunch in NJ! :)
