From PIR to coming home it was 14 weeks for my Sailor. I think there was a hold in there somewhere

Does anyone know how many weeks A school is? I keep getting mixed answers.

I am a Mom of old HT from 2001 and my advice to you is to go to the graduation. From the moment you enter the hall and search the ranks for a glimpse of your child and you find him or her and they see you, makes your heart fill with pride. Back in 2001 they sol videos of the graduation, I dearly hope that never stops. My son made Chief last year, that is only other important ceremony we can say compares to boot camp graduation.

The PIR from bootcamp, by far...it's a formal performance by the new sailors, they've worked hard to become.

I totally agree with Gayle, Bootcamp graduation (PIR) is an unforgettable experience you won't want to miss. It will be so important for your son to see you after all those weeks away from home, he will want you to see this important accomplishment. My son graduated Feb, 2012 and I took video of the ceremony. It is an awesome event. As far as I know, the others, like grad from A school, is just simple and short. Most families go to the PIR. Be sure to come to this sight often when your son leaves for bootcamp, it will help you greatly.

New to the group and have a few questions. Our son leaves for bootcamp the 23rd. We know graduation from bootcamp and school are a big deal but...how many parents go to the graduations? And, if we had to pick only one to go to, which should it be?

Hi to all the HT moms!  I have twins going to BC in August, their best friend is also going in August.  One of the twins and the friend will be HT's after BC.

Any advice or info on HT would be awesome.

@marylou,   Boot camp is tough but they come out maturer.  A school for the HT is in GL across the base from boot camp, when mine was there it had just started to be a series of classes kind of at their own speed. ( I think it was somewhat you had time frames you had to finish in though).   Mine was there from mid Oct to early March. He says he was near the top of his classes but didn't get special rewards he was promised for doing that.  HT is hull tech with the specialty of welding...fix it, type people.
