The busses drop the sailors off at O'Hare not too far from the location of the USO.  Best place to meet your sailor is at the bottom of the stairs leading up to the USO.  It is the USO before you go through security.  (There are 2 at O'Hare)

Thanks for the insight, wish it was 7pm departure. So u went straight to airport after liberty? Wow i wonder why the 1am shuttle. I thought they were out of boot. Wonder if that is typical? Has anyone else had same travel shuttling?

Regarding their orders...I'm not sure when they first receive them but parents don't see them until you visit at the airport. They only thing we knew during PIR was that he would get a few hours sleep when liberty expires and would be shuttled from GL to the airport at 1am.

I'm pretty sure they were on the same flight. We stayed at the airport until 5 am. We were told we could go back to the gate with him but we had been awake for 25 hrs at that point so we needed some sleep. We took his phone to him at the airport. They had a layover in Atlanta. I'm not sure exactly when they arrived but he called me that evening and said they had just gotten settled into their rooms.

Briesmom - were u informed of her travel orders before?  I would like to see him at the airport to give him his personal items.  Were the two on the same flight? Dakota's mom said he arrived Saturday evening, it is a short flight, was her flight at 7 am or 7 pm?  I may have to stay at the hotel at Ohare so we can meet up with him if it such an early shuttle.

Hi Ladies, I have the son PIR 9/21 with a start date for IS A School of 10/1 - that is what was on his sheet.  I am hoping that he will get settled and start, I think that Tumbleweed's son will be in the same class, and yes they can start right away, there are no "P" style days at A school.  However if they are waiting for the class to convien then they will do watch and PT and they will be on restriction for a while.  I will try to find the low down on IS A, I read it before.   Dakota's mom - was he shuttled at 00:30 to OHare as Bries mom's SR was?

Comment by Dakota's Mom on August 27, 2012 at 8:32pm
My son also graduated 8/24 and arrived in VA Saturday evening. He said they won't start classes until a week from tomorrow. However, he said they still have PT and other responsibilities.

Hi! My son is at GL with a PIR of 9/28, then on to Dam Neck for IS A school.  Question...

1.  when they fly to Norfolk the weekend after graduation, do they immediately start A school (because I saw one is starting 10/1)? Or do they do misc. check in stuff for at least a week first?

2.  Do they have any kind of "family day" during A school where we are invited to come visit that I will want to plan my schedule around?  Thank you!
