Tomorow we are going to visit our Son in Panama City...Yeah!
The main reason is to take him his "beloved" truck and some of his fishing gear, but soooo exicited to get to see him....last time was over the Christmas hoildays. I know it's been a very tough first 2 weeks for him so having his truck will give him something to look forward to.
We are getting ready to go to GL for PIR on 3/16 and then it's on to dive prep for our son. I've been following the comments on the PIR and Boot Camp Groups but I am so glad to have found this Group to take me through the next phase.
Our letters from BC have also been coming on Wednesday and Thursdays. Those first few weeks were awful, but with each week behind us and each new letter in the mailbox things did get better. When I start to feel down, I remind myself that this is his dream and he's doing what makes him happy. He has made me one proud mama!
sitting here in goosebumps. Well said Inaipaul!! That ceremony did seem forever... because I couldn't wait to get my arms around our son!!
The first letter will be emotional and several letters after that. They break down the division, mentally and physically, and build them back up as a team. When the division starts to learn to work together as a team...the training will get better....and so will your letters.
He'll want to vent to someone, and that will be his family! :D Be strong....he will get through this. :)
Leda B ,
I do not know about the ribbon. My son call the day before graduation date and told me where his division would be and told us where to sit. The ceremony is very long about three hours. I just wanted to hug my son. When it was over parents/family rushed the sailors.
That fist letter is very emotional. BC will break them down mentally and even more in spec ops but they do grow in a huge way. It nice to know only the best will be protecting our country and all we can do is be there to listen and give support to them.
Takecare
LedaB- Oh, how I remember that form letter that we received over a year ago! I would just hold it, feeling it brought our son closer to me. It is so hard in this day and age to have little or no correspondence from our boys. That was so hard for me. Kudos to your son for writing on the envelope that he missed and loved you. He is turning into a sailor and future diver. Congrats!
Inaipaul...that is a huge accomplishment for your son!!! If everything goes well...our son will also be 18 when he graduates from dive school. So proud of them for chasing their dreams at such a young age!!!!! I've always said....don't follow your dreams - chase them!! :)
LedaB - our son just graduated dive prep in Great Lakes and is Panama City now. woo-hoo another step closer to his dream! :) Our letters came usually on Thursdays, but got some on Wednesdays. I had previously worked for the Post Office for years, and couldn't stand the mail after that....but I can guarantee you, I couldn't wait for the mail to come!! If you have any questions....ask anytime.
Hi LedaB,
Congrats to your son. As Zenda said you will be getting a letter soon. It usually comes on Wednesday. I used to man the mailbox on wednesdays. You wil be very suprise how he matures after BC. My son left for BC right after graduating high school. He graduated as a Navy diver at age 18. It is a very huge accomplishment . They may get a phone call or two during BC but it is very limited to about a couple minutes. It nice to hear their voices. The tears of joy will come. Congrats. and God bless.
Liza
