I always tried to find "diving" jokes.  there's not much out there, but I would find lists of diving lines and string them out over 2 or 3 letters.  My favorite joke, mostly because I can always remember it, is :

What did the fish say when it swam into a wall?.....

DAMN!

Absolutely a ton of love and support! :D That's just what we're doing, sending him stuff to make him laugh and smile, and cards and such that he can show the others. I would try and find the funniest cartoons and put one in every letter or card. We were always laughing and joking at the house...and we're trying to keep it that way in his letters. Even with his first letters home, some parts tore at our heart strings....but then he would write something SO funny we couldn't help but laugh. :D

Inaipaul and Zenda,

You are both right about BC. It is very tough and they get yelled at alot, but as Inaipaul said, 90% is mental. My son is on his first assignment in Jacksonville after graduating from Dive School. I can't tell you how important the support is for them. When my son was in BC, we would send him the comics from the newspapers, protein bars and gatorade. He said the whole crew loved the comics. Just take it one day at a time. They are under alot of stress. Just love and support them.

OH.....I couldn't believe the difference in his shirt folding when we got "the box"...LOL!!!! So glad your son chased his dream also. How long has he been in?

Thank you Inaipaul...he said he's never done so many push ups...LOL!!! You're so right, about trying to break you down. Maybe it's their way of weeding out who really wants to be there wholeheartedly. He is a very strong willed young man and knows what he wants and goes after it with the best he has to offer. He's met some "pretty cool guys" in his unit, and said they have already built some strong bonds. That BC is difficult, but as he said...."it makes us stronger men at the end" We're very proud of him going after his dreams. I always told our kids....don't follow your dreams, chase them!! :D

Hi zen and Lyn - Congrats on your boys. BC was really hard for my son. The divers go into the special ops BC. It is all divers, buds, and EOD. They have more workouts and the training is different from regular BC. Its worth it in the end. 200 push ups become sooo easy. Just write positive things in your letters. The boys really need to read about how proud you are of them. I could not believe when I saw my son fold a shirt after graduating BC lol My son is currently station in virginia beach and loving it. This week he took a couple days off to go surfing with some other divers. It is all worth it in the end. Tell your boys its 90 % mental. My son mediatate alot and prayed. They try and break you down mentally. I hope this help bye
