So glad you got his form letter!! It should get better for him into the 3rd week. I only wish someone had warned me that our letters would be like before we got them. He humor is really starting to shine through again! :D Start sending those letters, cards, cartoons, things to make him smile and grin. Our son kept saying...to please, please send letters! So happy for y'all...have a great night sleep!!! :D

@ Bensmom, thank you for that support!! This website has been a God send to me with Mom's reaching out, it's been wonderful. We keep waiting for the letters every week now. We keep saying "no news is good news" I almost had heart failure yesterday. Our phone rang and it was a 847 area code. Knowing it wasn't time for a call.....wrong number...WHEW!!! So, I read on some older posts....there will also be a graduation when he graduates from Dive school? We just can't wait for it all!!! :D

@Zenda 04/823-Congrats to your sailor! I can not stress how wonderful the dive community is for both sailors and parents alike. It is a small but very tight group. BC was the hardest part for me. I worried about my son all the time but do know that he/she is going through one of the toughest parts. Do know that things will eventually get easier for your sailor but dive school all the way through is tough. Good luck to both of you!

Our first 'real' letter came 18 days after he left....and WOW, was that a long 18 days. We would check the mail constantly. Don't be alarmed if the first letter is not what you expected. It was our sons dream and passion to be in the Navy as a Diver, and his letter kinda took us aback. As another Mom had written on here (somewhere) she explained that everyone is coming from different back grounds, upbringing, everything....so they have to break the division down, and build them back up as a team. So don't be alarmed if he sounds totally beat down.

It's getting better for them all! He got there on Wednesday the 14th and we received our form letter on the following Monday, and "the box" the next day. From what I was seeing from other posts, we got our letter and box pretty quickly. The form letter had a very short, 4 line, note on the back. Was great to see his writing. I really thought I was going to cry when I opened the box, but we found his pant legs rolled up and I couldn't help but laugh. Guess the laughter came at the right time!! Apparently the pant legs were rolled up so they could measure for his boots. I learned that a couple of days after the box. So you can imagine the stories we came up with about those pant legs...LOL. Did you get your call that he got there?

I'm so excited to see Mom's writing on this discussion. There wasn't any activity when I got on here. Our son went to BC on Sept. 14th with the Diver contract. There's not many of us Mom's on here!! So great to see you all!!! :D
