ladyhawk - i did yoga from my On demand  cable. There is a mediation section. It really help cleanse your mind if done on a regular basis. My son got a dive contract right out of high school. It is very hard mentally on a young man at eighteen. That age they think they know everything and bam a rude awakening in BC. At dive prep his mental strenght was tested to the fullest. You had to make up your mind that you have to feel how it feels to be drown, never think about what your doing but just do it, and most of all its a mind game. I prayed sooo hard everynight for him and he did the same. Everyday I would text him to remind him to mediate at night and also in the morning. I also visited him a couple times in chicago and panama city. As I said before he is a mamas boy lol. Dive school is not only a mental struggle for the boys but the parents and significant others.

Mama - That is nice that your son can go back. I am really happy for him. God always has things plan a certain way for us. We might not see it right now but we do later on in life. Any questions he has later on please feel free to ask and my son will be very happy to give him some hints if he needs. My son has become a workout addict. Takecare

LadyHawk-the book is titled Navy Diver: The Incredible Undersea Adventures of a Master Diver by Victor Boesen. It is a great book. The only drawback is that it was written is 1962 so there have been many advancements in technology but the basic diver's job is the same.

Mamasan-He is one incredible sailor! He will become a diver with his drive and "never give up" attitude. It is great that they told him what he can work on. You are right about our sons not being the same young men as when they started this journey. I told my son that he is a such a different person now, very focused. I can thank the US Navy for that! I told him yesterday that, even if he did not pass Pool Week, that I was so proud of him showing up every day with a can do attitude and not giving up. He was not like that before he joined the Navy!

I am so glad I have all of you to learn from and share with. Thank you all!

Thanks everybody!  I spoke with him last night.  He actually sounds pretty good.  He is hoping to get to stay in PC as long as possible.  They told him he just needs to work on his water skills, swimming, cardio., etc. and they would welcome him back.  I don't think it hurts that he got 100% on the first test!  One of his instructors said he definitely has what it takes, and that he has no doubt he will be successful...just that he needs to strengthen a bit.  He took it remarkably well...a far cry from less than 6 months ago when he started this whole journey.  Then, he wouldn't even acknowledge the possibility of not being successful...and now, well, I asked him if he was going to work out today and he said "why wouldn't I?"  Wow...so impressed by the man he is becoming.  He just turned 19, so he has plenty of time.  He is hoping for a base job so he can work out like crazy.  I think I'll still hang around here...just to stay in touch with everybody and because I know I'll be here with a Diver before too long.  Thanks ladies!

Mamasan - Sorry to hear about your son. Please tell him to be careful what he picks because they try and push them to pick something quick and he does not have to pick something  right away.  I am sure he can come back to retake dive school. My son had a guy that did not make it about 4 times and finally made it. It does take alot of determination.

Sailor princess - Yeah they usually are up at 5 and as they progress in school they will get out earilier. Its only for a couple weeks. They have to drill into them to continue to pay attention to details. Its very very important that they continuously pay attentin to details. Don't worry it will get better.

mamasan 4/809- I am so sorry to hear that. Will they let him start over or is he going to be assigned to another rate of his choice? That is such a tough school and the first two weeks are brutal. God bless both of you in whatever he decides to do. I am rooting for both of you!

Well ladies,  my boy got dropped today in PC.  The end of the brutal first two weeks.  I haven't talked to him yet, I wish he'd call.  He didn't make the underwater one breath swim...

Donna-I am a praying momma too! Thank you for that information about dive school just being the beginning. You are right. I just finished reading a book written by a master diver in the navy and he was still learning new things after 20 years as a diver.

Our son just texted us. He passed Pool Week, 13 out of 15 did! He said it was one of the most difficult things he has done in his 26 years! Hooyah to all our sailors! Four more weeks to go.

Thank you Wanderlust! I was just curious and trying to figure some things out!

SailorsPrincess - I believe it was around 4-5pm most days. Towards the end some days might be earlier. 3-6 pm for the most part.
