When will those going into dive prep know how long before the next class begins?

I'm still trying to find out who can tell me what electronics (cell phone or Lap Top) they are allowed to have in dive prep. I read somewhere that they can have a cell phone, but they must leave it on quarter deck when they leave for the day. Mamasan 4/809, since your son is in dive prep, do you know?

My boy is just a few weeks away from finishing dive prep.  He LOVES it!  Much less intense in terms of structure than BC.  Lots of PT, but also lots of academic work.  As the time moves on, the emphasis will almost entirely be on the PT aspect of his training.  One more week and it will be the "pool" week...make or break time.  Its great how well they are preparing them, though.  Gradual, well designed training so that they are ready (as ready as they can be) for the things that had seemed insurmountable just a few short weeks earlier.  We'll see, but, I'm feeling pretty good about the whole process!

Hi becky,

Dive prep depends on when your gets there if they have enough to start a class. I think they need about 15 . My son went to dive prep sept 14 but had to wait a month for others to finish bc. After they start dive prep then its about two months I think then to panama city. It really all depends on if they have enough to start a class in chicago. Divers are very rear very small and elite communty. My son is first in our family to serve so I am very new to the whole military things. My son is station in little creek virginia and the divers are all very close because of how few they are.

My son went in to BC on the 8th and is also (Ship 4 DIV 817). I got the first call that same day saying he got there ok. But haven't received the form letter.

I keep hearing how hard it is for the divers and I worry, but he is well prepared and was very excited to go in. He has been training as well and like the others on here he is thin but well built. Very strong and confident.

Good luck to all in this class, they are all very special people, couldn't be more proud.

My son told me dive prep was 32 training days.  I assume that's about 5 weeks.

Does anyone know aproximately how long Dive prep lasts? Is it weeks or ??

Also, can he have his cell phone and laptop in pre-dive at GL? We will see him at PIR, but just are not sure what we should bring to him. Hope to see you all at meet and greet  for the July 1, 2011 PIR.

Veryproud -My son use the muscle man shakes from GNC store. It comes in powder form which he kept in his room at dive prep. I got what ever protein bars that was on sale at food store aleast 16 g protein.

Dive prep - laptop ( broadband) , clothes, backpack very limited space cause they have weekly inspections, its much better when they get to panama city. Dive prep is where the weak are weeded out very tough but mostly mental tell him not to take it seriously. I think the hard part for my son was treading water with 2 tanks on his back. You have to be able to do that in order to move on, they leave that for what they call Hell week . My son failed the first time but the next day he prayed and passes. It worth all the hard work its amazing what young men they become.

My son just stared BC on June 6th and he will go on to dive prep as well.  He has a special ops dive contract.  Jake is thin but muscular as well. He has been running, swimming in the ocean and in the pool, and doing all the PT they had in DEP.  He is mentally and physically as ready for dive prep as he can be.  He even practiced sitting on the bottom of the pool holding a cinder block to keep him down and hold his breath!! Good luck to all our sons and daughters!

Hi veryproud,

My son is very thin also which is good for dive prep. They called him slim jim lol. He is all muscle. He drank lots of protein shakes and protein bars.

He has a built like Michael Phelps the swimmer. Don't worry about the picky eater they eat and sleep when they are told. My son is a very picky eater and that ended when he went to BC.

My son is smack dab in the middle of BC right now (PIR 7/1) and can't wait to move on to diver prep.  I can't bring myself to tell him that the hard work has just started.  It's best he just gets thru BC right now anyway.
