Ozzy, when you get his PIR date, make sure to look around here for a group with that PIR date.  If there isn't one already, you can start one.  My PIR group was a LIFESAVER for me.  You get more information about what's going on and when than you'll know what to do with!  My group was really active -- there were just under 200 of us and it was like we were this big, huddled group waiting outside the doors of the BC for 8 weeks!  LOL!!  "Did you get a call?  No?  Did you?  Yes and he said they all passed inspection!  Yea!"  Stuff like that.

Bonus:  The veteran moms lurk in those rooms and give TONS of info about what to expect and how to go about your mom-liness when important things happen, etc.  I think you'll love your PIR group.  Ours planned ahead to wear same-color scarves at the PIR and surrounding functions so that we could spot each other easily and put smiles to screen names.  :D  It was great fun popping all around Great Lakes and Chicago, grabbing ladies with pink scarves and saying, "HEY!  I'm Exxie, who are you?"  My poor son was mortified, of course.  LOLOL!!  I guess that's what moms do.  Hehehe

Thanks Gerry Proud Mom,  I did receive his "I am here" call on Tuesday at midnight.  He was so exhausted, but still happy!  There are only 2 divers in the 60 that were being processed.

I have been reading these forums like heck, I called his recruiter today and I have an address already.  We started writing, and a few letters will go out tomorrow, even if he gets all on the same day.

Thanks everyone for all the support and information.

Hi, exxie, Ugh,  I was hoping that I could stop worrying at some point here!  lol! I am definitely going to his PIR, just do not know when it is, right now. I think the beginning of May.

You must be so proud of your son, I heard Dive Prep is really hard.

Congrats Ozzy!  My son PIR'ed 2/18 and is now knee-deep in Diver Prep at GL.  I thought I would be mostly over the worrying and finger-crossing once Boot Camp was over, but I'm not.  Still holding him up in my thoughts and prayers as high as I possibly can!  ;D  When will yours PIR?  And are you planning to be there?

congrats on your sons graduation. My son said there is one across the street from base but I do not know the name I will ask him. I know hotwire .com has some great deals but the hotels are usually reasonable around the base from what I heard. Richsmom - I am on pins and needles right now cause of pool week. I will keep all the boys in my prayer they all have worked soo hard. God bless them. Takecare Liza

My son told me that there is a LaQuinta right across the street from base,  We got the triple A rate of 85.00 a night.  He won't graduate until April 19th so we haven't been there yet so not sure what it's like.  But he said it was really close.

Hope this helps.  I'll get the phone number and send it on.
