Yes, diver prep is across the street in GL. Diver Prep is about 10 weeks more or less.
Congrats on his test!
My3Sons, yes the deployments are pretty much the same for everyone. The single guys tend to volunteer for deployments more often, but they are all pretty short and at very cool spots. My hubby has been to France, Scottland, Spain, and Thailand.
Congrats, My3Sons!! Excellent news!
To roryharrison: I'm a diver wife. My husband has been a diver for about 5 1/2 years now. No your bf shouldn't be on a sub if he's a diver. (however, I know there have been exceptions to this) For the most part, diving (in my opinion) is one of the best jobs in the Navy. While, your bf will be deployed it will be on short trips (mostly no longer than 6 months, however my husband has never been deployed for longer than a few weeks) Groton, CT, it a great place to get stationed! the work is taxing on the guys however, the sense of family there is amazing! Right now we are stationed in Guam...its been a three year vacation!! I have gotten the opportunity to get dive certified and its amazing and makes me so jealous of my husbands job! The diving community has been so amazing to us, its a true joy and I hope you encourage him to jump in with both feet! With divers its all or nothing!! :)
I don't know exactly how it works when you are already in the Navy, my son went in wanting to be a diver. The training is difficult and physically taxing. It was BC (for Spec Ops) & Diver Prep in Great Lakes, then diver training in Panama City FL. And then stationed where there is a dive locker (Honolulu in his case). Being re-stationed is a always high possibility in the Navy. Staying on a sub, I don't know.
hi i am not a mom but my bf who is on deployment wrote me today saying he might try to get qualified as a diver when he gets back. i was curious does that mean he will still be on a sub? it is the first time i have ever heard him mention wanting to do that. i have googled to learn more about divers. it looks so hard but i am so proud of him i know he can do anything he sets his mind too. being a girl i always get more nervous about those things. i guess i just wanted to know more about if he does become a diver will he get stationed somewhere else?
