Hi everyone!  My husband will be graduating Power School June 17th!  He's currently doing the officer packet because he wants to become a Nuke Officer.  So far I think he's doing pretty well.  I looked on the STA-21 website and I saw all of the requirements, but of course, I'll never know exactly what makes the decisions over who gets selected.  I guess I'm here for advice!  My husband did go to Purdue University in Indiana for 2 years...until he flunked out.  I was pregnant and already had a child at the time.. and well, at the time, he didn't have his head in school during that difficult time.  Which is why we decided on the Navy.  We also looked into the Officer program--it is wonderful in so many ways.  Now my husband does have college credits, even though he has quite a few F's and Withdrawals on his transcripts.

Everyone makes mistakes and it happens!  Especially in difficult times.  But when my husband got to Nuke school, he has been doing very well!  I tell him this every day.  I also reassure him that he's doing great with his officer packet.  He already had an interview with a board of Officers...next interview is with the Commanding Officer, at least I think so.  When I look on the list of requirements, I see that Greg has been meeting the requirements, or going above the requirements.

He is PT coordinator  - leadership position

He got a score of 55 on his ACTs - (50 required score for Nuke officer candidates)

So far during power school, he's averaging a 3.58 overall.  He has 7 tests left though!  Hahaha.

He always scores very well on his PFAs.

He also has a couple reccommendation letters from his SLPO and someone else at the school, I forgot, hahaha.

But I was wondering... I know you ladies can't tell me whether or not my husband will be selected.  For we all know, it's a difficult program to get into and who knows why some people get selected over other people!  Do you think my husband is on the right track?  Any advice would be much appreciated!  I'm sure my husband will be glad that I'm looking for advice for him, but not so glad that I blasted his college grades... LOL oops!

Hi Kristen-

My son completed nuke power school a year ago.(He went to Penn Staete and did ROTC on a scholarship.) He went on to do prototype school and submarine school. He worked his tail off in nuke school and in prototype school. I think he was almost always studying on base. It was hell, but he did it and was successful. Tell your hubby to keep studying and be prepared for all the testing!! I know one of my son's close friends made it thru nuke school but did not pass prototype school up in Saratoga, New York. What a let down for him. So, my best advice for you is to pass it on to him that hard work does pay off! My son has completed 1 deployment and is currently stationed in Groton Conn. which is not far for us because we are in New York. Hang in there!
