Anna, MY son was stationed at Whidbey Island for 2 1/2 years before he left on the Vinson with his squadron!!! I think you said your son was in Intel? My son was an intel officer with a squadron of Growler planes at Whidbey. Your son might be doing the same thing mine was at the same base! Small world!!
As Helomom posted, you must visit Whidbey Island! The view from the high bridge going from the mainland to the island is incredible. Oak Harbor is a nice town. Take some time to see Seattle also--the Space Needle, Pike Place Market (where they throw fish!)
M's mom,
So happy he is doing well and gets to go to Japan with his wife!!! That at least makes it nice that he's not there alone!! I hope you do get that visit.
Sailor Son will be gone on a deployment most of this year and when they all get back the whole squadron is moving to Whidbey Island. We will try to schedule our visit for there!!!
Jennifer is excited to get this training finished finally!!!
Anna, So glad to hear that your daughter is well, and back on track! With all she's been through, I'm sure it will be a relief to her to get back to flying. I'm sure she'll catch up.
You may have to spend next winter in Hawaii (too bad!) if your son is stationed there now!
My son returned to the States in June after a ten-month cruise on the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson, mostly in the Persian Gulf. He was able to take some leave in August and he and his wife came home and stayed with us for a week. It was wonderful to "mother" them both for a few days, because they moved to Japan on Jan 5th. Son will be doing something intel-related, (We don't ask and he doesn't tell.) at the Headquarters of the Joint U.S. Forces in Japan at Yokota Air Base, near Tokyo. They are loving Japan so far, and have been exploring in Tokyo. We hope to visit sometime during his 3 years there. I just hope they don't produce any grandbabies while there---it's so FAR away!!!
1after909,
I also went through the "hardly know her anymore" with one of my girl's. It's better now, so hopefully it will work out for you and Noni!!!!! I think it's a growth thing, but I'm no psychologist!!!!!!!
noni,
I understand hating those goodbys!!! Our traveling really came out of the work my husband was doing the last 12 years. He was like a self employed contractor but would work a contract for 6 months to a year and then leave and go to the next one. For the first 9 years he lived and worked wherever and I stayed in one place until the twin daughters got through high school, then I went on the road with him. We would move at least every year. So we sold the last house we owned, downsized all we could and just moved from one job to another. Sometimes one of our kids would come visit us but most times we would go see and stay with them!! Still hated goodbyes even when it was me leaving!!!! So there really wasn't much different when we got the 40' 5th wheel and went on the road full time. Still managed to visit each kid last year!!!!!
M's Mom,
Thank you for asking about Jenn!!! She finally got her thyroid stabilized with the proper dose of synthetic medication and had to have 3 blood tests 6 weeks apart that were "normal". She finally got off med hold (after a year and a half) and was approved to remain in the aviation community. So just this week she transferred back to the training squadron to finish up and get those wings. Should take her 2 to 3 months to brush up on all she's accomplished so far but hasn't seen or touched in over a year, plus learn all the new changes since a year ago. So she is on her way, but we won't really know how much this hiccup will affect her long term career since now she is a year behind where she should be. We'll just have to wait and see what her future brings.
Jake's Mom,
My other daughter enlisted right out of high school, did her 4 years and got out. She used her GI Bill to put herself through Penn State and just graduated in December with her BS and did it all in three years!!! Gotta love having an PSU alumni!!!!!
I just know he is at teh San Diego base, not sure is 32 Avenue. He has been there since last June. He commissioned in May while at Penn State. He was in the NROTC program for 4 years. He has had a great experience and seems to really enjoy San Diego.
