My son arrived 6-29 and has started his A school after 3 weeks of waiting. Anyone else have someone in this class?

What is MWR? I am not familiar with that. What kind of volunteer stuff?

Hi Everyone! My daughter will be going to Meridian after she graduates on 7-26-13. She will be an AZ Aviation Administration. She is worried that she will have a "boring" job. I am thrilled she will be inside and I like the idea of computer access that I have read about on here. I am sure I will have many questions as time goes on!!

Hi Mimi, did your son attend college at all either during his tour or after with the GI bill?  How long was he in the Navy?

Comment by Mrs. David's mom on July 20, 2013 at 6:51am

Karinaann,  yes, David enjoys his work.  The AZ's are also known and "Lazy AZ's"  because it is a desk job, indoors, and really doesn't take that many hours to finish everyday.  Currently, David is doing the 'Librarian' side of it.  He keeps up all the technical manuels for the squadron.  He was originally hoping to be on the maintenence side, where they schedule and keep records on the maintenence of the aircraft.

Right now, we don't know if he's going to make a career of the Navy.  But, he is aquiring skills that he can use in many jobs once he is out.

Thank you so much for getting back to me.  I'm curious what the job involves.  Does David enjoy his work?

Hello Karinaann, Welcome

so, you have a few months to prepare yourself for the Emotional Rollercoster ride.  My son left for bootcamp November 2011, and was on his first deployment by the end of April 2012, on the USS Abraham Lincoln.

Boot camp can be hard on mom's.  You will get the "I've arrived" phone call the day (night) they get to Great Lakes, then it seems like a life time before you begin getting letters, and if you're lucky, maybe a phone call.  I didn't hear my son's voice until our "I'm a Sailor" call.

At the end of A-School, they do get some choices of assignments.  David chose a helocopter squadron because, "they go more places than fix wing aircraft".  He, and the squadron he's attached to, is based in Japan.  They headed out on deployment on the USS George Washington in June, and will be out until November.

For mom's back home, the good part of the AZ job it that they work at t computer and have email access!  Even if it's just a "Hey, mom, what's up?"  I need to hear from him.

I learned about this web site from David's recruiter.  This site is WONDERFUL!!!!  So much information, and so many other mom's to share with.  Once in boot camp he'll be assigned to a 'ship' and 'division'.  You can join a discussion group with Anthony's shipmates moms.  And, you'll get to meet everyone at PIR.  As you can see, there are groups for everything!  I am also on Facebook.  The squadrons, and ships, and bases have their own Facebook pages and post lots of information and pictures.
