Hi Chantay, welcome to the group. Yes we are a proud group. And we all have that special understanding thing going on between us. It truly is one of the best groups for support on N4M.
Congratulations to your son, wish him the best. Where will he be stationed?
I to wonder how Ellen is making out.

I'm back......What a great 4 days it has been. The homecoming at Pendleton may not have been as big as the Ship pulling in down in San Diego but it was filled with just as much emotion. We even made the news....

It was great to see Tara, she was very happy about her whole experience, so much that she is wanting to go on another deployment. She also had some great news to tell us, besides getting her ESWS pin she also passed her Boatswain Mate test. She is now rated..... Boatswain Mate. Unfortunately she missed her PO 3rd by .5 point. But she will do it in Sept.

Of course she has her reasons for being BM, and I think that BM takes a bad rap just like Undesignated does, so my goal is to give it a better reputation just like this site has done for Undesignated. Do I need to go hunt down that group??? LOL!

While on deployment she has gotten to learn so much. She not only knows her LCAC stuff but she now knows the whole ship. I have to believe because she was undes in the beginning she picked up a lot of experience before she took the tests. She checked out a few jobs that she thought she wanted to strike for and every time she decided it was not for her. Sometimes because she got to do the job for a bit and sometimes because she got to ask questions of the people in that job and get the real story. Either way right now she is just happy to be rated. She did give us a tour of the Boxer while we were there. She was a great tour guide.

Wow you guys have been burning up the key boards!!!!! Welcome to all new members.
I went back and read everything the only 2 cents that I will add is.....When Tara went in undes, she could have gone in Seamen undesignated....white/blue stripe or Airmen undesignated green strips. Meaning some experiences that you get in one you won't get in the other. So if there is a choice check to see what category the job you are interested in lies. I don't know about changing on down the road.

Anyway it's good to be back home and here. I'm not going anywhere, I will still be around. Although Tara will be home on Thursday for 10 days, so I may be a little pre occupied. But I will check in from time to time.

Thanks Julie, I'm very excited. I may have time to check in or the week end, but if not I will give the full report as soon as I am able.
Have a good weekend everyone.

V-, That's what we are her for, glad we could be of some help. Let us know how things go.

I will gone for a few days......I'm heading down to San Diego for my daughters Homecoming. After a 7 month deployment I would hate to be her when I run up and give her a big hug. But I can not wait. I'll report back when I can.

I would say undes rather then CS, I always heard that it is harder to cross rate, then strike for a job. But he may want to find that out. Maybe Camilla can answer better.
Comment by CrackerjackMom on July 27, 2009 at 12:24pm
My daughter chose to go in that way because she wasn't interested in the jobs that she qualified for at the time. So she wanted to go and check out different jobs without having to be stuck in one for 2 years that she might not like.
