Sorry I have been absent, between last weekend and being away agin this weekend I have just been trying to catch up on everyday life.
Welcome to all they newbies. This is a great place to hang around and find out what is going on. It seems that you can become undesignated many ways. And believe it or not it could be the best thing for your sailors. They will find something that suits them and they have help in finding out what job is the best for them. They just need to be patient.
I know to them it seems like the end of the world, so just be there as support when they vent. They are still in the Navy and have a job. They are better off there then outside in this economy.

Carla, sounds great that you will get together this weekend.
You gave him some great advice. Just tell him to be patience.
He will find his place.

Welcome Carla, my daughter went in from the begining as undesinated, her choice. She has been in for a year and a half she is currently on deployment. She is very happy, but knows she needs a rate. For my daughter it has been a good experience.
Your son has nothing to be ashamed of.
I think as long as he has the scores for what he wants the only other hold up would be, if that job he wants is overmanned. In other words if the job is full he will have to wait till they need people in that job and then he will have to get a spot in that school. They will help him through the processs.
I'm sure someone will come along with some more info for you.
Hang in there.

Been there done that. LOL Our imaginations can run wild when we don't hear from our kids when we think we should.
Glad you heard form Cory and everthing is fine.

Tara also took her BM3 test also. I don't think they find out the results for a few months. She is a little nervous about. I hope she passed. Now she is studying for her ESWS pin. But her ship was just in the news as picking up some possible pirates. So I 'm sure there is a lot of activity on board.

I don't know about NC, but Tara is stationed in Camp Pendleton which is a Marine base. She is there with the Navy LCAC's. You know the Navy, you never know where you'll find them.

Glad I could help. Yes Pity partys are a must every now and then.
I feel that these kids are in a good place right now, while they figure
out what they want to do in life. It may not be what they want right off the bat,
but at least they have a job. Your son will be fine. And it sounds like you are giving him good advice.
This is a great site to hang around. At least we know we are not alone and can get answers and support.

I hope I can explain it. (Hoppi where are you?) Non rated is E1 - E3, basiclly it is a pay grade. I believe it also refers to having a specific job title, in other words what you went to A school for. Check out Bluejacket.com -

http://bluejacket.com/usn_ratings.html#pay

I'm sure it will explain it bettr then I can.

Hi Shelly, Welcome. Although my daughter went in undes from the beginning, I to was very worried about her. But she is figuring out what she needs to do to become rated. She likes what she is doing and has no complaints. She is on deployment now and seeing some of the world.
Shelly, everyone sooner or later gets kitchen duty. Even the Nukes. Just tell him to take it all in and go to his counslor with quetions.
