USS Reuben-James families

Am looking to chat with family members of sailors on the USS Reuben-James out of Pearl Harbor, Hawaii

Location: Oregon, Ohio

Our first trip to Hawaii to see the Reuben-James return after 6 months asea this past February 2008. Awesome is an understatement - Goosebumps, lumps in our throats and misty watery eyes best describes the feelings of seeing these fine young men return home to their loved ones.

I just text my sailor to find out.  How about those Golden Shellbacks, they have funny traditions at sea!

My son just got bonged off the Reuben James, not sure of the exact meaning but I'm guessing it is part of the transferring/decommissioning ceremonies.

My son has been on the USS Reuben James for the last 2 1/2 years and just finished his 2nd deployment. Now they are working hard to get the ship decommissioned. His transfer orders has him reporting to the USS Makin Island in San Diego 8/5. I'm really excited that he will be back in California and a little closer to home. I'm sure they will be deploying shortly after he gets here though. It seems like he's been gone forever, almost 2 years in Chicago and then Hawaii. I have to say that even with the demanding schedule he keeps on a Frigate it's the happiest I've seen him.

Mailman came-no letter today but the last one I got looked like someone else wrote it-her penmanship has improved and she is doing well and very motivated!

Good answer Lady Hamilton. So basically shoelex, if she does end up in Hawaii, it will probably only be on the Reuben James until Aug, and then be reassigned. I thought this site was for folks related to sailors actually out on the ship. (not in boot camp) Does any one know anything about where they are for Easter?

My daughter was just assigned to USS Rueben James, Div 924. If it is a decommissioned ship what becomes of the sailors assigned to it?  My daughter will be going to Pensacola after basic training. I guess it all depends on what there job is. Aviation Mechanic is what My daughter will be going to school for.

Hey K, good luck getting anyone from this site to chat with you. No one has ever answered me.

Here's what I've heard.  The ship is scheduled to be decommissioned when it gets back this spring. So if your sailor is sent to Hawaii to do that after school, it will probably be a short assignment until he is reassigned.

Hello everyone.  My son is still in boot camp and assigned to Ship 02 USS Reuben James Div 923.  I don't know if that means after boot camp and A school he will be assigned to the Reuben James or not.  We know his A school will be at Great Lakes but have no idea about where he will be after that.  Does anyone know if they are on assigned to Reuben James in Boot camp that they will be assigned to that ship after A school?  Does this mean he will be assigned to Hawaii?

Does anyone out there know what's going to happen with the ship and when?  I heard it was in a transition, but I haven't heard what it is.
