OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

I see you have joined Cryptology ~ CTI ~ CTM ~ CTN ~ CTR ~ CTT ~; your Sailor will most likely fly out to "A" School the day after PIR. See PIR Day and Liberty During PIR Weekend to help you know how to plan your weekend. Since those are Spook ratings, the information within the Page, OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes To Your Profile), will be important for you.

What is your SR's rating (job/specialty) going to be? There is additional information I can direct you to.

The Page, 800 and 900 Divisions, within Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) will be of interest to you since you have a recruit in a performing division. I believe that Division 921 is Ship Staff/Honor Guard.

Make changes 2 and 3 at the bottom of OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) (clickable link). There may be other changes you need to make as well, so read and consider each of the changes.

Since you have an SR at the RTC, you can change "Waiting to leave for Boot Camp" above to "Enlisted."

You can also leave the group,USS Reuben-James families, because that group is for those with loved ones on that vessel (the actual Navy vessel), not those in BC on that "ship" (barracks).

Good Morning!

Its good to hear from another Michigander!  We are near Ann Arbor (in Brighton).  My daughter is actually finishing up her degree at GVSU so we've made many trips to the west side of the state.  What is your son's rate?  Mine is LS (logistics) and will be going to Meridian, MS for A school.  Do you know what your son will be doing for graduation?  My SR is a body snatcher (still makes me smile- its such a funny title!).

How are you doing with his absence?  His departure makes us empty nesters and while I really miss him we're getting used to it.  Haven't had a "bored" weekend yet!  Of course, when my daughter graduates in April she will probably be home for the summer since she's going into teaching (not a lot of jobs start in June!)

Have you made plans for graduation?  Where are you planning to stay?

Looking forward to chatting!

Karin

Welcome to Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones). I look forward to sharing this journey with you. Be sure to check out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) for information on what to expect and to help you prepare for PIR. Start with OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) and Arrival and What Happens at the RTC and read 1 or 2 pages a day and then go back to them as you need the info. What is your SR's rating (job/specialty) going to be? There are groups for most ratings and/or "A" Schools and knowing that will help you to better plan for PIR weekend. Take care and blessings to you and yours.
