OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

This is how my son's and I keep in touch during deployments.. We use Yahoo instant messenger.. My son can log onto his Yahoo Instant Messenger and send me a txt message directly to my phone, I can then reply to them immediately.. Sometimes phone quality is very poor, calls get dropped this seems to be a lot less frustrating for everyone.. They can also send me a quick messages "hey mom I am ok..love you will call when I can" etc etc..

I am attaching the directions as an attachment.. hopefully everyone can see it.. if not will figure out another way..

our son has google mail, and communicates the same way. He has set up a video chat, and when available can use that also.
My Army son took his Iphone with him, even though they were told not to bring their phones, and he has been able to Text regularly.  He got an international plan so he won't get extra charges. He also has facebook and his Army brigade 3/1 IBCT has a page on facebook so I get to see alot of what's going on.  He's actually with Public Affiars, so luckily he has alot of access to technology
My son just got skype, does anyone know what I need to do to hook it up on my end?
lynda with skype he can call your phone or you can set it up.. http://www.skype.com/intl/en-us/home  on the website it shows you a few ways you can get.. through your computer which will require a webcam/microphone and there are some you can buy as an all in one..  The free version lets you do calls with other skype members for free..
I have a web cam and so does he. They are cheap very cheap and I get him right in my living room and it is free! If he has internet access he can skype. While I am talking to him I snap pics of him. Thank God for skype! Spin Boldak to Florida!
