thanks for the info on Viber. Do you know what kind of cell phones are available in Sigonella?  My son will be there in early December. Glad to see a few mom's on here.

My son has been at Sigonella since March of this year.  He lives on base with his wife and daughter, age 2 1/2.  They love it there.  My family is saving up money to go visit them this coming summer.  Skype and Facebook are great, but the best thing we use is an app you can download for phones called Viber.  It lets us text, make phone calls and send pics with not charge on our phones!  We love Viber!

Is there a facebook page for Moms of Sailors in Sigonella?  I found the Sigonella welcome and info page but it's mostly for Sailors with dependents.  Thanks.

Rhobo61, a drivers license is one of those documents that if she looses it, there is no way for  you to get a replacement in a hurry. That is one of their main forms of ID, some places she may not want to show her military ID. Just tell her to hold on to all her cards, theft happens.

Thank you AJ! Out of curiosity why do they need a duplicate drivers license?

To rhobo61- Sig is one of the safest bases for your daughter to be. Our daughter has been there for the past 4 years and loved it, she will be leaving in 1 week for VA.

Make sure you have a POA with your name on it. I have to say that is the most important thing of all. And make sure the bank has a copy. If you need to use it they may take up to a week to approve it.

Get a duplicate drivers license.

They are just a few items, if you have any specific questions, please ask.

To PAMom- I'm not sure about classes on base however I do know Duquesne University has a few locations in Italy. Also many of the sailors take classes with the on-line colleges.

Hi,

I just found out my daughter will be stationed in Sigonella SOON!  I can use any advice on what things to take care of before she goes.  Thanks for any help available.

Hi AaronsMom, go back to Oct 9, 2012 comments, we discussed shipping at length on that day. If there are any other questions, please ask.

Your son will certainly enjoy it.
