Well, I just sent my Sailor to Sigonella.  She seems to be doing ok so far.  Thank you Auralei - Ship 13, Div 230 for your wonderful son!  For taking time out of his busy day to help her get "settled in".  You did good mom!!!

Hi Robin, I hope you had a great Thanksgiving :)  I totally agree, he needs to travel Sicily and Europe.  We are planning on visiting him in 2015 and traveling Italy with him.  Thank you for the info about the phone, I will pass along to Victor :) He gets his sponsor this week, he is so excited!  I will let you know more info as I get it ok. Your advice is so appreciated, thanks a bunch.

So how are you doing?  Still missing Sigonella real bad?  Is your family close by?  What is your rank and position in the Navy?  Do you have brothers and sisters, if so are you close?  I don't mean to prey, but I think you are such a sweet young lady, want to know more about you if you want to share :) forgive me if I asked too many questions.

Hope you have a wonderful week, hope to chat soon, God bless you :)

Thank you Ladies, that's what I thought.  He should have his papers the end of next week :) I am so excited.

Will his iphone work good over there? We have Verizon so does he.  He is getting a new laptop for Christmas so Skype will probably be the cheapest way to communicate , right?

I'm getting real excited for him but can't help but feel a bit sad.  I am close to him and it has been hard for the pass 4 months, can't imagine 2 years.  He said today, "you know Mom it won't be two years when I see you, I will come home and you will visit."  Do they really come home during their time there?  I just agreed although I have a feeling that won't be the case.  I am planning to go there though in 2015 for a visit, saving now!  I sure am going to miss him :(

When my son graduated A school, he had to wait for the Navy to issue his ticket from Gulfport to Norfolk to Sigonella. Once that was issued, he went to some office (maybe the travel office on base?) and they changed the ticket to Gulfport to Dallas to Norfolk to Sigonella. He only had to pay the difference. I think it was about $200-$250.

I'm going to chime in here but definitely not to dispute anyone.  My daughter just left A school in MS and flew to Dallas (home) she had to pay for that.  She will fly from Dallas to Norfolk and I think the Navy paid for that flight but I'm not sure.  I'll verify with her later in the day.  She did not have to go back to MS.  I was wondering the same thing you are Victor's Mom about if she would have to go back to origination point but she doesn't.  I will check with her and see what she had to pay for.

I believe he needs a re-route ticket, waiting to hear from him and see what he finds out from his commanding officer. Please pray it all work out, thanks ladies!

So the Navy doesn't send him from where he is to where he is going.  I get that he should pay for his ride home, but not to where he needs to report. If he wasn't coming home would he still have to pay for his ride to where he reports to?  That doesn't seem fair.

Hi Ladies...need a little advice or help figuring out travel plans for my son this Christmas...

My son is coming home after MA graduation in San Antonio.  His leave is 14 days, then he will need to report in Virginia so he can get his flight to Sicily. Question, will he need to buy a round trip ticket home from San Antonio so he can fly to Virginia from San Antonio, or will he be able to fly from home to Virginia via Sicily?  He is getting confused and I am getting anxious not knowing when he will arrive home or know his traveling plans, help please :) Thanks!

I've been reading the posts as they've been posted and kept thinking I need to chime in but never did.  It's good to see activity on this page.

Robin, thank you for all the info.  My daughter will be headed over shortly.  She found a set of drawers that she would love to have in her room but I'm afraid it would be very expensive to ship it (I think they're plastic - but still).  Why aren't single Sailors offered a PCS move like ones with families.  I'm guessing if she buys it the best way to send it over there would be priority mail?  Any helpful tips about barracks life would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

Thank you Victor's Mom and The Robin.
We are doing better , did I mention I love Skype or should I say I am so thankful for technology. We talk to him all the time. He sounds good and that makes me happy. Don't get me wrong I still have my days. He posted pictures from Mota and Catania , I guess they take him there when they are new. He posted a picture of Mt. Etna ( volcano) which has been active lately. :( yikes
The Robin thank you for all your information and wishing you the best.
Please. Continue to keep us informed.
My son will be there for 3 years and has been there since Nov. 5th. , so need all the support I could get.
Thanks again ladies
