Thank you Loretta. She is traveling to Norfolk on Sunday and will be in holding until she leaves. Her dad is having a hard time with all of this. Hopefully I can get him focused on planning a trip and/or to go fishing a bit more. I'm fine knowing that Skype is available and plan to use it regularly. Right now she is all packed up and her sea bags take up most of the dining room, somehow we will have a family dinner tomorrow amid green, black and digital blue.

Hi ScorpioMom, That answers my questions, appreciate the reply. I have been busy since our daughter came home, apologize for the delayed thanks. She has been in contact with her recruiting office the last couple days and they are now saying the same, since they also have been to that base. Also about the car, to get one there. I would like to know if you keep in contact with your son through skype?

AJ..My son arrived at NAS on Aug 5th. They took all their furniture and housewares w/them. Also were told if there was any non perishable food they liked to take some as many things are hard to get. They have a hotel room for 60 days while on the base house list or to find off base housing. They are now 3rd in line for family base. Base housing provides electric convertors off base they get 4 then have to buy add'l. Their stuff arrives later this month and the car in early Oct. They get a list of approved off base houses and they go fast. Most offer furniture to use if needed. no car yet has been their big obstacle in housing. Hope this helps and good luck to her they love the area!

Hello. Hoping someone will be able to answer my question. My daughter will be arriving at NAS on the 22nd. She will have base housing for the first 3 months and then will need to move to regular housing. She said she is able to ship 5000lb of household goods. Not that she has that much, however all of her 'stuff' is labeled and boxed in our basement. My question is, what exactly will she need to have shipped? I'm assuming the 'housing' will be an apartment so she will need cookware, table/chairs, etc?

Hi JessicaB-Sailor Mom...the base does not have city transportation (buses). it's too far from the city. However there is a bus that runs couple times a day that takes you downtown Catania. You need a car for sure. Sorry I haven't been here a while....

Elsa tell your son to be very careful. Unfortunetely they will try to sale him a car that is not not worth it's true value. Humm his best bet is to try to buy a car from another Sailor that way he will know what's wrong and will get a really good price. I know believe me lol...I am from Sicily and if he needs any help I have family there that can help him. Let me know...

Mary counting down now.....Mary if you guys are driving places make sure that you always have a full tank of gas because that keeps you from looking for gas stations that accept Gas coupons. If I remember right it has to be BP or ESSO that takes them. If I don't talk to you before you leave, have a wonderful time and don't forget to stop at the flower shop on base, Salvo will give you a Rose lol just mention my name. "family ties lol"
