Update: My son just informed me over Facebook that he finally received his package today - to my immense relief. I had enclosed a couple of gift cards, for Amazon.com and iTunes, and was so afraid that they were lost. Next time I'll know better and use Priority Mail for anything of any value. Thanks to everyone who passed along information about mailings.
Thanks for the update. My Sailor hasn't mentioned a new mailing address - but I'm not sure she would because she works in the mail center.
Thank you for the update Auralei :)
Our son has always gotten cards & letters. We've had issues with him sending things here. He sent an Express envelope last year. It took 16 days to get here & was only supposed to take 4. And Auralie you're right. Once the package leaves the states, there's no way to track it.
So far it has only taken 2 weeks for my daughter to receive her mail - except one box but it only took 3. I send everything priority mail - even if it's in a regular box - because priority will go straight thru but flat rate or regular mail will be sent on a "space available" basis. (If they have space for it they'll send it - if not, oh well). Could take up to 3 months to reach them. I can ask my daughter if there are any "glitches" in mail coming in that might hinder delivery. (Bad addresses, etc.) She works in the main mail room so now would be the time to get all of the answers we are looking for!! Another thing - her big box of clothes that she sent got wet - so I'm going to start wrapping stuff or lining the box with plastic.
It also depends on who is picking up the mail for his area. I sent something to my son & the guy who picked up the mail put everything in a drawer that no one used. it took a couple of weeks before mail was found. You might want to check to see if anyone else in your son's duty area has gotten anything recently. That's how my son found out. No one else had gotten anything either. I always send it out priority. It may cost a bit more, but it gets there sooner.
Good Morning, Christmas is a very unpredictable time to mail FPO. A few years ago I sent a box on Dec 15 and our daughter received it on the 23rd, unusual. That same year she didn't receive 1 of the boxes until June. No matter what the post office says the cut off date was from then on I always made sure her gifts were sent out by Thanksgiving, that seemed to be the trick.
I sent out My sons package on Dec 17th to Sigonella and he hasn't received it either. On the Military Postal site , It said give it 21 days ? So today is 21 days. I will be checking again tomorrow. Tyler said that other friends have not gotten their packages either.
Hello everyone - I hope the holiday season was a good one for all of you and your family members in Sigonella. Here's my question: I sent my son a package (2 gift cards inside a Christmas card inside a bubble-wrapped mailing envelope) 1 week before Christmas, which as of today he has not yet received. The package was sent certified 1st class - it has a tracking number, which I have been checking on the US postal service website; I have also registered an on-line inquiry with the military mail service. How long does it normally take a small package like the one I sent to get over there - I know I should have mailed it sooner, given the high volume of mail everywhere at Christmas time, but I really had hoped my son would get it before New Year's (we got him a TV set, ordered & shipped through Amazon.com, last year which was ordered in December and which he received during that Christmas week). My big concern now is that the package may have gotten lost somewhere along the line - have any of you had any similar experiences? Any information would be appreciated.
Victor's Mom, There is a NAS Sigonella Welcome and Info Page on face book. They are usually pretty good about answering questions - you may want to ask on there. The people on the page are over there so they would know more. Hope that helps.
