Maddy08-He felt the same way about P-cola. Very "redneck" (and we are from Tennessee!!) Everyone in Corpus was nice as far as we could tell from our visit (Hotel, restaurants, grocery, etc.) Go to the HEB grocery, they make fresh tortillas in front of you and they are wonderful. Since he was out on the island they thought they were safe, but someone broke in his car and stole his flight books and gear. Padre Island National Seashore is beautiful, so I think you guys will find some nice places to visit!!

@NTnavymom - Thanks :) We've only been married two months so children aren't in the agenda at least until he's winged but I definitely look forward to having little sailors around. Haha. We've heard that Corpus doesn't offer much to do; however, my husband is actually excited to get out of Pensacola. The base is nice but he doesn't care for the environment down here too much. Do you know if your son thought the community was nice? My husband also hopes to end up in Meridian. He wants jets terribly. I've also heard that Mississippi is very boring, so I secretly hope he gets something else. =X But I'd never admit that to him.

Nancy, Our son moved to Meridian mid-June. I do think they are studying more too, haven't seen as many "party" pics on facebook!! Plus they get to fly so much more, that was the biggest frustration in Corpus. He is enjoying the T-45 as well, didn't get to fly anything that sweet when he was getting his Aerospace degree. It is just amazing to me to see how many flights a day his squadron has on the schedule. We want to go visit soon.

Hi Maddy08,
I was a Navy wife before I was a Navy mom, there's hope for you someday! Our son spent about 10 months in Corpus. He rented a condo out on the island with 3 other guys. He preferred P-Cola, as there was much more to do in FL. Now he is Meridian, MS and just thought Corpus was boring (There's nothing in Meridian!) There was a lot more studying in Corpus than his college flight school, so the time goes quickly. Good luck!

Hello. I'm not a mother of an officer at Corpus, but my husband is an officer going through flight training and we're getting moved to Corpus Christi next week. We're currently stationed in Pensacola and I haven't been able to find much information on the place. Anything you ladies could tell me would be most helpful. I'm still a little new to this navy lifestyle, Pensacola was the first base I had ever been to and we've only been there about three months. Help! :)

When I get the certificate error I click the allow button. It's usually very slow to load! Hopefully they will be moving pilots through faster now.

It took him about 11 months to finish primary. Hopefully they are moving faster, he did alot of waiting for planes when it was time to start flying. He started his jet training in Meridian, MS very quickly after finishing primary.

Welcome sailordawgmom! My son had some down time before he was able to "class up" because of the back log. If you google his squadron number, ie.
VT-27, you can bring up a daily schedule and know when he is on watch, classes, or flying. This is helpful because when they do start classes they are very busy studying, and you don't hear from them as much. Hope this helps.

Hi Nancy, our son left CC for Meridian a few weeks ago. Did the training in Pcola and got back from the centrifuge last Fri. His roommates are leaving Meridian and I know he has some new guys moving in. Maybe they will be roomies! All I know is that he lives on a lake, not the party place they had in Corpus on the beach, but worth the downgrade to be flying jets!

James Adams - have a great time!! The USS Lexington is interesting if you've never been and downtown CC is nicer than the area around where the base is. If you really want to splurge for dinner, the Republic of Texas Steakhouse at the top of the OMNI hotel is really nice - great view!
