Hi Karen,

They should have a choice of housing either on or off base. We currently live in Lovell Cove - they are still in the middle of construction so there a lot of homes ready but have not been released (that is the May date they are referring to). Honestly the housing office is not the greatest, we are finally moving into a place in off-base housing soon after waiting for 4 months. He shouldn't be at the bottom of the list because Chiefs can live most anywhere - unless he is requesting a specific area, like Colombia Colony - it's supposed to be for E-7/E-8 and officers, but because there is only a small amount of officer housing, Chiefs would be at the bottom of that list. I would tell them to ask specifically about Challenger Estates which is off base and Lovell Cove. If you need any more information, please let me know!

PS - The housing office is going through some major employee/management changes so that could be part of the problem too. I do know that my house will be available mid-April!

Krystal, This is only her second duty station. They have only been married 4 years this April 8th. I talked with them last night and they are really stressed out. Seems that the car they just bought never was delievered on time so they have her moms jeep and will need to make arrangements to get that back also the house hunting isn't going good at all. They looked into base housing and was told that they would have to wait until at least the 1st of May. Seems there is only a few places for them and where he is a new Chief he is on the bottom of the waiting list. So for now they are in a hotel room. And to top it all off They don't know where to put him. So needless to say they are stressed out big time. They didn't think that it would be so rural there. I think they are both ready to go back to Italy. I wish I was closer so that I could be there for them but I know things will work out. I just wish her due date wasn't so close. They may be bringing the baby back to a hotel room if something doesn't change quickly.

J & Krystal, Thanks I will let her know. They have alot on their plate right now with the baby due April 19th and I know they are also looking to buy a home there so they will be busy trying to get settled and getting to know their way around town also. My son should be use to it by now having been doing this for 15 1/2 years already. I wish I lived closer so I could help but her parents are in Ga. and I am in Fl. How do you like it there so far? Is this your fisrt duty station?

Thats good that you like your future daughter in law. I have 2 which I love very much. My 31 year old is still single and saws he doean't plan on getting married or having babies any time soon. He's inHouston and is dating a nice girl who is a surgon. Britt is smart in her thinking. There is plenty of time for her to get married and have babies. She is still very young. Let me know if she ever needs anything. Maybe my son can help her out. He knows his way around the system.

Well Steven hasn't decided if he will leave after 20 or stay for another 10. I guess it all depends on where he ends up after this tour. Thank you for the well wishes for the baby. I have 2 grandbabies now a boy 3 1/2 and girl just turned 2 last week. They live 3 hours from me in Tallahassee Fl. so I get to see them once a month. Next month I get them for 7 days 24/7 so I am sure I will be ready to give them back after that. I love them to death but its nice when they go back home. Just not as young as I was. My babies are 28, 31 and 34.

Vacationed in Montana back in 2000 and I just loved it. You are very lucky to live in that beautiful state. Steve was hoping for Pensacola so he would be close to home when the baby is born in April but no such luck. They really loved Italy and hated comming back stateside. If not for the baby comming I think they would jave opted to stay overseas. They were also stationed in Rota Spain and loved that also. We did get to visit there also. The Navy has been good for my son and he has made a good life out of it. I guess its like anything else It's what you make of it. and besides that there isn't any jobs on the outside right now.

Shelly, Hi, Steven is an instructor, He has been in Geata Italy for the last 3 years so its good to have them stateside. How long has your daughter been in? Steve has been navy for 15 1/2 years now. He got promoted to Chief last Sept. I was in Italy to pin his anchors on him. It was wonderful. I am so proud of him.

Morning all, Well I hope the weather is improving there for everyone. My son and daughter in law will be there soon to begin a 3 year tour. Baby is due in April their first so I plan on visiting sometime in April early May. I can't wait. He was just home for a weeks visit and it was wonderful. Hated to see them leave yesterday. Allison, My daughter in law said that she still has your email and will be in touch she has just been so busy with having to pack out and get to the states from Italy. Hope all is well with you. Karen

Hey ladies, Try and stay warm and safe with all the bad weather you are getting. I have an empty guest room down here in Florida. I am glad the kids aren't there yet he still has another 2 weeks in Italy then school in Norfolk for 2 weeks so they should be getting there around the 16th of March and by then the weather should be better. Things will be hard on her because she will be 8 months along and not knowing anyone ot her way around. Well lets just hope for the 19th for my new grand daughter to arrive. You all can just have one big party. Take care Karen
