I agree with you all. I can't imagine the pain of these families.

Just waiting for my gf's to all check in.  Its just one of those things that you can't call and say "Was it your child?".  Just hanging in there waiting.

flyboymom, I am with you as my son is still in Intermediate. I look at you more experienced parents for courage and a glimpse into my future. I appreciate your candor and wisdom.

AH, Thank you for the details, that's what I was looking for.  Your experience sounds absolutely amazing, I had no idea that you could do that!  Best to all.

Leslie, that sounds like an amazing funeral.  While not a military funeral, it sounds like the tradition is the same.  When my FIL passed away, it was the first military funeral that I had ever attended.  It was truly amoving  and the Chaplain from the AFB in Wichita came down.  For never having met my FIL, he sounded like he had known Rex  all his life.  It was just too bad that it was so windy and cold.

Barb, we did a Tiger Cruise with our son on the Lincoln coming back from Pearl Harbor to  San Diego.  It was just over 5 days.  It truly was the best experience that I've ever had.  If you ever get a chance, do it.  I loved every minute of it.  The Capt of the ship did not allow any family on the deck during the fly off and recovery of the planes during the mini airshow that they did.  I have seen photos from other carrier Tiger Cruises where the Capt did allow for the "Tigers" to be on the deck.  My DS is a LSO and was allowed to have one Tiger on the deck when they were retrieving the planes.  His Dad had his hand up before the Skipper even was telling DS that.  So DH got to be on deck for recovery.  Totally unfair, but he got some amazing photos.  We did get to see DS taxi on the deck and almost got to see him fly off but the catapult that he was on broke so they moved him to a cat that was out of our sight on Vultures Row. He flew off the day before the ship came into port in San Diego and came down from Lemoore and walked us off the ship. All in all - it was the best trip I've ever been on.  Hope you can make it some time.

Hello!  I've noticed the term Tiger Cruise a couple of times...what is that?  I've tried using the Navy Speak translator for some of the abbreviations and terms and it has not helped me yet!  Thanks!

KUNavy, I got an email overnight from my DS.  He said that he flew in the first mission (Day One, Event One). He stated that the "Higher-ups" told them it was because they had confidence in them, but they think it was because nonoe of them wanted to be up for a super early brief.

My DS should be coming home next month.  I keep asking him about when and haven't received a reply yet.  His orders are in for instructor for VFA-122 but they extended his orders with VFA-137 for a few months.  Since he is the senior JO in his squadron and they were leaving for cruise, they wanted  him a bit longer to transition in.  Otherwise he would have left on cruise and before getting to duty station, he would have been getting on a plane coming back to the States.

Do you know if they are planning a Tiger Cruise for this deployment?

Looks like it's been a rough start to the year for a lot of us. My father had a mild heart attack and stroke 10 days ago. Then the day after he was released from the hospital he came down with the flu. Three days later my mother developed the same symptoms and my brother who had been at the hospital also got sick. We had just returned from seeing our son in Newport, RI but I went to my folks to help them. Dad was ready to leave the hospital but mother wasn't in any condition to care for him, she needed help for herself. They didn't want to go to an assisted care facility so I stayed until the weekend and my brother has the next shift. Now we have to deal with the insurance company. A home nurse provided through the insurance company was at the house Thursday and went over the care available at home. They told her that home care would cover a nurse checking on them twice a week, an OT, a PT and a ST one day a week and a social services counselor. Now today the insurance company called and said they only cover the nurse. I was there at the house listening to the whole program. So now my brother is checking to see what the story is. It's just one big mess.

Nancy, thanks for the support. My MIL has three therapists M thru F, physical, occupational, and speech. We worked with all three to do some things that could help. It is an eye opener. Thanks again.
