I have a spoiled-rotten, four pound, nine-year-old yorkie who is my baby! We had another, a female, but had to put her down 3 years ago due to inoperable collapsing trachea- common in yorkies. I miss her terribly to this day! I am presently "babysitting" a beautiful cat that belongs to my aviator son while he is in Corpus Christie in API. She was a rescue cat and he named her Lil' Mack (I know, I know- thats a boy"s name lol!) She roams the house looking for him, I think!
DH and I went out to see the horses and TJ, our sicky, looked so much better. I believe that we are past the worst of it. It may be that I'm not shoving 8 huge syringes of medicine in his mouth each day or just that he is feeling better. I'm relieved but I know that he is in his late 20's which means that he may not be with us much longer. I'll take what I can get.
Yes our pets become our kids. I get a kick out of watching Maggie, our 14-15 year old Blue Healer mix. She's blind and I believe that she believes if she's noisy she can get her point across more clearly. She's spoiled beyond belief but we love her. I took the 15 year old cat and put him in a snow drift today. He's an inside cat and loves going on supervised visits outside. He wasn't too happy about the snow drift and ran back to the door quickly.
I finally heard from the DS. I had to laugh, as he said that why he wasn't writing as much. Something about being the lead on OPFOR on a ADEX called Shalem or something like that. He gave me all the meanings. Basically he was a bad guy on an excercise trying to blow up the boat. The problem was that he was the lead but didn't find out until the day before that he was going to be involved and had to plan all night, fly all day the next day and slept the night and 1/2 the day after.
I still don't know when he'll be back but he says that it won't be that long.
Anyway, everyone have a great weekend.
I've been reading all the posts about everyones pets and had to chime in.
We have 2 pomeranians, 13 (Sam) and 6 (Tucker). We lost the brother of the 13 year old (Max) 6years ago due to liver cancer. Had no choice but to put him down....was one of the hardest things ever. Sam is diabetic so we give him insulin shots 2x a day..he's going blind but given his age and health is doing pretty well. Tucker has a collapsed trachea so we have to keep him calm, cool and on a strict routine. We keep the A/C on in the summer even on days I'd rather have the windows and doors open which aren't many in the Chicago area. Everyone is so right..our pets do become our children but I do think these might be our last as we get older and hubby is close to retirement, we would like to be able to pick up and go when we want...we'll see though. we've always had pets...shelties before pomeranians..hard to imagine life without pets. We're nuts over our pets.
We have a winging ceremony coming up in early March in Norfolk....E-2....NFO. Can't wait.....AND a deployment as well....his 3rd.
Have a great weekend everyone!
God Bless our troops..esp. those deployed.
Maggie is a Blue Heeler mix. She herds me to bed every night. At least she doesn't nip at our heels to get us to move. She gives us the "look". We have a cat that is the same age as Maggie. The horses are 15, 18 and 28 or 29. We aren't sure about the last age as he doesn't have papers so we go by teeth and that is the best guess. I agonize over whether to get pets again after these 2 at home are no longer with us. I'm just not sure, but as you say, Nancy, once a pet lover, always a pet lover.
Nancy, keeping you and your family in my prayers. Knowing that Rio is no longer suffering must be a relief, even though your heart is broken. Lucy will miss her old pal. Our pets have done the same thing when we have put and old one down, and that in itself is heartbreaking. This is another aspect we parents have in common. Their childhood pets are reaching their life expectancy, and we are making these end of life decisions. We have our third childhood pet remaining, a 13 year old Dachshund, Maya. The Labrador made it to 14 and the Beagle was 15. Along with the 2 cats, guinea pigs, and gerbils we have a pet cemetary in our back yard!
Nancy, I'm so sorry. It is really hard, I know. I didn't think that I would want to be there when we had to put a pet down, but I am really sorry that I wasn't when our first dog ( a golden) had to be put down and I now really regret it. When we put our Molly down a couple of years ago, our Maggie (I know common names - no imagination) was devastated and still perks her ears if we mention Molly. I'm thinking of you and hope that Lucy gets through it too.
Welcome Margaret!
Leslie- yes, Logan's in Primary in CC- two of his roomates are in New Mexico now and he hopes they send more in a month or two so that maybe he can get sent, too!
