Nina, congrats on your new Ensign. Our son was commissioned in April and is now done with primary waiting orders of what he will fly and where. It has been an exciting year. If I can be of assistance, let me know.

Well, we are facing a 2nd Christmas without our DS.  He will be again on the boat for deployment.   They are leaving in the next week.  I decided to make stockings in the squadron colors with their call signs.  The weekend was cutting out, transfers for the call signs and sewing.  i hope they appreciate it!  I got them sent today so that they can pack them out.  Since it takes some time to get mail on the boat and they will be in transit for several weeks, I thought that the best way to get them for Christmas decorations.  Last year, DS said that they had an orange tree, so I hope this is a good addition.  19 stockings.... they have a few too many pilots right now.

Understood - there may be more in this OCS class because many (incl Alex) were from BDCP.  It seems that there's a lot of lapsed time between getting there and beginning IFS, is that true or again does it just depend?

Yes, we are very proud; this has been his dream for many years.  There were 5 pilots (incl our son) and 7 NFOs in his class, though I think a couple of the NFOs are trying to become pilots as well...  There may be fewer in some of the other classes, not sure.

Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving - we are still coming off the 'high' of last week's OCS commissioning - our new Ensign is heading to Pensacola in a week or so...  I'm sure I'll have more questions then comments, but look forward to being a member.

I salute all of your loved ones for serving our great country,

Nina

Kathy....The loss of a close friend can often be the most heart breaking.  Take care of yourself.

James....I am with Sheila and a romantic,  I had a long distrinces romanic 36 years ago.  I was in Calif and he was in Germany.  We celebrated our 35th wedding anniversary this past July.

Sheila...Safe travels to you and anyone else who is traveling.

For those of you that helped me shoulder the burden of the loss of my daughters finanice I am happy to tell you that she is moving forward.  She purchased a house and we just moved her in this weekend.  She still misses him and has time of saddens, but is past the gut wrenching grief.  She is learning to live with the loss a little better each day.

Much to the be thankful for this thanksgiving.  Peace and happiness to all.

Well said, Sheila. So glad that you will see your son for Thanksgiving. Mine just finished Primary and waiting for assignment. So, we won't be able to spend Thanksgiving together. From what my son says, Primary is even more studying. I am just thankful that he has found what he wants to do and is giving it his all. I can only ask that he is happy and healthy.

NW&M- The storm was west on the coast. I live in the Interior.  We did get snow several days later when the fronts shifted.  They get more wind out there but it's usually warmer than the Interior. We get the cold & ice fog.  People out there think we're crazy to live here with the cold.  They get the wind with big storms, and rainy summers.  We get hot (relatively) dry summers.  We're all nuts I guess.

Will be going to the Philly area and CT to see daughters in school and in-laws. My son will be coming up from Texas; he might welcome the cooler weather.  We're lucky he's still in the training phase, so we get to see him for the holidays.  This will probably be the last year.  He should wing this spring.

Hey, here's something to make you all count your blessings!  It was -40F when we got up this morning, a record this early, although I do remember -30 on Halloween one year.  So we are hoping to be in a balmy +40 for Thanksgiving with family on the east coast.  Last year we got weathered in.  Our son will hopefully be able to get there late Wed. also.  His training has been going well. Can't wait to see him.
