Chris, 1.5 hours from Lemoore - I live in Sacramento, where are you referring to? Always fun planning something long distance.

congrats Chris- when is the wedding? I can only imagine how much planning you need to do! I am only the mother of the groom and I thought it was a wild ride. We live in eastern NY the wedding is in Buffalo and DS lives in Norfolk- thank goodness for this marvel we call the computer and excel spreadsheets:) Oh yeah and my family lives in Michigan- haha

my prayers are with you AH and DJ as your loved ones go back out. My DS will be going back out on his second deployment soon again with the Enterprise- just got back last July. I am treasuring all the time I can get with him as he is married this Sat. I will try and post pics.

My DS will be deploying on the Abraham Lincoln the first part of December.  My understanding is that the Vinson will be deploying a bit earlier than the Vinson.  If they don't deploy before Thanksgiving, he might have liberty but if they deploy before, they will be on the ship.  It took about 3-4 weeks for the ships to reach their first liberty station.  It took almost a week from Honolulu to San Diego and we were hauling you know what on the way back.  The first liberty that DS got was in Malaysia and it was several weeks.  Also be prepared that if you send anything to him in the first couple of weeks that it could take quite some time to get to him. Christmas package was sent last year on 12/4 and didn't get to him until the end of January.  Basically mail is the least important things coming in on the COD and they can only get stuff on the COD when they are closer to land.  Sometimes it follows them around for weeks.

My DS was home for 5 days and just left this morning.  This was his first trip home in almost 2 years.  It was great having him home.  Unfortunately he didn't give his friends much notice and only got to see a couple due to conflicting activities.

We did put him to work on Saturday out where we keep our horses.  The winds were blowing very badly.  Wind gusts in the 75mph range where we were and he said that the one gust (it hadn't really started blowing yet and quieted down again for about a hour) was the closest that he had ever been to being in a micro-burst.  It took the top layer off of the hay shed out there and he and the hired person were up on the roof screwing it back down.  He said something about wanting to free climb up to the roof, but I put an end to that quickly.

He is on his way today to Las Vegas for a JDAM conference.  I'm sure I'm not spelling that correctly.  Something on GPS guided weaponry.  I am hoping that the weather holds so he doesn't have any issues through the mountains.  He is probably through by now.  He got a new truck while he was here.  He got rid of his Jeep.  We were sorry to see it go, but the truck will fit his needs better than the Jeep.  He couldn't ever really use it as he would have liked due to time constraints.   He did get it stuck in the dunes in CC several times however.

Everyone have a great week.

Oops...that should have been "has a son or daughter."

Comment by Kabar on November 13, 2011 at 4:12pm

Just wondering if anyone else on here have a son or daughter graduating from API this week.

Comment by Michelle on November 13, 2011 at 4:49am

Leslie, that sounds like my son, except he had a little tractor.  He'd go as fast as he could down the yard until he'd crash at the bottom, then get up and go again. I think that's why he loved playing defense in hockey, crash into someone and then get up and go again.  The only fear he ever had was of getting stomped by a moose.

James, glad all is well and hope your son gets a good rest.

Hello to everyone and have a good week.

Big news today from Heloson. He had his FITREP debrief today and has the official word that he is 1 of 6 for the second time. Double tap number 1! Woohoo! Selection board meets in February, results won't be released until May if they follow last years schedule. Fingers and toes crossed! This is going to be a long Spring.
