Had a bit of excitement yesterday - got a call from son's GF saying he was very sick and was heading to the hospital in San Salvador (with Navy personnel). Turned out to be an emergency appendectomy and since there is no actual naval base there, he was going to a local hospital. He called about 20 minutes before surgery and there were two Corpmen (is that correct) who would be staying there during surgery and into the night - all turned out well and it didn't rupture. He was also able to call during recovery and already knew that the Packers had beaten the Falcons! Priorities
What's really nice is that we have received 3 calls from 2 different Lt. Commanders, and one call from the flight surgeon who was actually in Sigonella and was in touch with the Salvadorian doctors to give us updates on his condition. I must say, the squadron does take care of the families! So we are now breathing a little easier today.
Nancy, I'm sorry that I didn't get a chance to call you this weekend, but it sounds like you are a bit under the weather. I hope the solid foods works and that the antiabiotics start working. Of course, antibiotics always screw up my stomach.
We leave Friday to go see DS and the Lemoore Airshow. We are renting a Mustang and driving from LAX to Lemoore. Jeff's later mid-life crisis. I just hope this gets it out of his system. I can't wait to see the brat. He has been on Comptuex or something like that. I don't know if he is home yet or not. We only got 1 email as they were going on "River City" through the exercises and wasn't getting emails or being able to send them except on a limited basis. For the uniniated, "River City" is restricted communications. The first time I heard this phrase, I had to look it up! The Abraham Lincoln is scheduled out of Everett the end of the year and it will not be returning there. On the FB page for the Lincoln, the Cpt had a video talking about Pre-Deployment. I'm bummed that that they will be out again at Christmas. 2 years in a row. With DS being an only child, it's hard.
Nancy..... Hope you get to feeling better and I'll try and call after we get back from Lemoore.
JAMI, Thanks for the advice, I'll check out youtube. My son leaves for SERE this Friday -- I'm apprehensive about knowing how butal it is:(
Rosemarie, There were 3 "functions" the day my son was winged: (1) blessing of the wings in church; (2) soft winging - aviators and family gathered in one of their classrooms and each introduced themselves and their families and their XO wripped off a patch on their flights suits and velcroed new patches on; (3) at the Bay Club in Corpus the aviators were all dressed in their dress whites (along with a few marines and Italians) there was a very nice ceremony when the aviators got their "wings of gold". It was a large class -- about 25 aviators. After we took our aviator out to dinner, we then went to a "tequila bar" and partied the night away with all of those young aviators. What a treat!!
