DS is half way through deployment - has not had a lot of opportunity to see any part of the world he's in - bummer as they are short-staffed with pilots, but is plugging through - but realizes that his missions are part of history right now, so even though he was not a history buff, now realizes what he took part in. Had his 27th BD - sent him a party in a box and enjoyed the juvenile stuff I sent - cannot compete with the GF :( but sent an Esquire Cookbook that he's enjoying reading and will use when he's home
On another note - been sent the link to the video of a SEAL funeral and his dog and I cannot even read the subject line of the email without tearing up much less watching it - so heartbreaking even if you are not "dog stupid" like I am.
We SO NEED TO HAVE A GET TOGETHER SOMEWHERE!!! Can we pull something like that off???
I was just watching the news and see that the Navy put a bunch of ships out to sea in advance of Irene. The Eisenhower in Norfolk and is now out to sea. My job is an insurance adjuster. About 11 years ago, I went out to Greensboro NC to handle claims. I have already been advised that I am on call for Sunday regarding new claims. Unfortunately, we are really short handed right now so it will be an interesting few weeks. Additionally, we have a large office in NYC and they are likely not going to be working for a few days. I know that it will bring back memories. Sept 11, 2001, our office was destroyed. We had people on the 47 and 48th towers of the WTC. Fortunately, everyone in of offices got out ok. My boss here in Denver was a survivor of the tragedy. He handles it better than others. The only time I've ever heard him say anything was that several years ago, he was in Chicago and there was a highrise building that was on fire and he had to just get out of there.
Now for the good news, my co-worker's daughter had his first grandchild this morning. A beautiful little girl. I am really jealous. Leslie, I hope things work out for Rory. It is so hard to find someone ready to put up with the military.
Not sure what is going on with my DS, but I talked with him last evening and he couldn't talk but sounded really down. I know that he hasn;t had a minute for himself since he got back from deployment in March. We are going out in Oct. for an airshow that they are having in Lemoore. He will have been out to sea for workups for the next deployment. We won't stay with him, just to give him a chance to settle in again. Can't wait to see him.
Well, everyone stay safe this weekend. I'll be thinking of all of our East Coast members.
anyone feel the earthquake- DS said they thought the hanger doors were stuck and then all of a sudden he couldn't move his feet- daughter in DC had to evacuate he building - guess it struck about 70 miles between them both-
Off to Buffalo for the first bridal shower- boy I am so new at this.
My DS loved Pensacola, too! He, and many of his OCS classmates, were there much longer than anticipated as they were way backed up - he ended up volunteering at the Naval Air Museum for a few months, and also met his new wife there!! Their wedding was in Pensacola in June, after he had moved to Corpus, then Meridian, and now Lemoore.... The beaches in Pcola are beautiful! Very nice house and pool pictures.... They will really like it there, I am sure!
