Oh, Denise - that is heartbreaking!! Thank you for sharing the link. Puts everything else into perspective, doesn't it?

To clarify.... I did not mean to take sides politically. I think most politicians make decisions based on what is best for them (personally or as far as getting re-elected), and not always with their constituents in mind. I have a hard time trusting any of them! I do like lsp3Orion's breakdown of funds - I bet that is fairly accurate - unfortunately. We are a family of teachers and military - maybe that's why I get so annoyed. Sorry..........

IsP3Orion....plagiarize away...thanks

There is plenty of blame to go around for this mess starting with the Community Reinvestment Act under Jimmy Carter......these regulations were strictly enforced under the Reagan administration, completely abused under the Clinton administration which continued and were virtually ignored under the Bush administration, i.e. Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae.  My fear now is that we have a president who doesn't give 2 hoots about our military....I do believe some of these past presidents did. Again, there is plenty of blame to go around...this didn't start under the previous administration but he certainly contributed to what we're going through now.

Completely agree IsP3Orion!!!!

Thought this is good - I think it's fairly accurate:

Salary of retired US Presidents .............$180,000 FOR LIFE
Salary of House/Senate .......................$174,00
0 FOR LIFE
Salary of Speaker of the House ............$223,500 FOR LIFE
Salary of Majority/Minority Leaders ...... $193,400 FOR LIFE
Average Salary of a teacher ................ $40,065
Average Salary of a Sailor DEPLOYED IN AFGHANISTAN $38,000
I think we found where the cuts should be made! If you agree... RE-POST

Lou - that was so well written - would you mind if I plagerized your comments some??

I am with you, Lou2949!! I sometimes think they use the military, social security, teacher pensions, etc. as "bargaining chips" and it makes me furious!! I, too, am working on a letter to our Senator and officials. I could not have been more angry than watching the President come to Chicago to celebrate his birthday and fundraise for his next campaign (how far down the road is that?), and our great Senator, along with hundreds of others, paying $35,000/person to attend the dinner - only days after that economic deadline!!! And now they are all on vacation while we are still uncertain as to how to fix this mess. I never realized how involved in the military my life would be, but I have my DS, his best friend (Army), my daughter's wonderful boyfriend (Army), a family friend (AF), and several of their high school friends in various branches. They deserve better from the leaders they promise to obey and the people they promise to protect and defend. I am sorry - I get worked up, too!! Thanks for being an advocate for our kids! We, as parents, need to make our feelings known to those who want our votes.... Or they can just go home (and collect their pensions - which no one mentions changing!). Ahhhhh!!!!!

Anyway - hope you are all having a great day!!  :o)

Wow Lou2949- you said everything I have been thinking. I have written to my Congressperson, but here in N Y , the military doesn't seem to be on anyone's radar. That said, I will still keep trying- it is the least I can do for our guys and gals who serve.

Hi All....haven't been on here in a while.....so much has happened with you all this summer. So happy for all the wingings, moves, CQ's, boyfriends (Shelia), new grandchildren and on and on. And, Leslie, glad to know you're feeling better and are back on here with all the family updates that are always so fun to read.

Ok, I'm on my soap box....I'm talking about the budget cuts in the military. I sent my congressman an email yesterday and voiced my concern to him about these cuts and concern over how deep these cuts might be. I am very concerned about the elimination of the pension and going to a 401k. This seems to be all the talk now on the news and from what my son says, among those in his command as well. I am furious over the fact that the Powers That Be don't seem to be attacking waste and I'm sure there is plenty.....instead, they go straight to the military pension. The statement has been made, "Well, businesses have 401k's, why not the military?" I want to scream when I hear this.....men and women in the business world don't lay their lives on the line for our country, every man and woman in the military does and takes an oath to that effect. This country owes our military BIG for preserving our freedom and our privileged way of life. So, I've asked my congressman to please pay close attention to the defense cuts and to be our voice in making sure that our politicians are wise in making the decisions regarding this very important issue. I hope you all will contact your congressmen as well, if you agree with me on this. Contacting our representatives is the only way we can make a difference......HOPEFULLY. The consequences of deep cuts in the military could compromise the strength of our fine military and their morale and our national security. This is a huge issue that needs close attention.

OK, I'm finished...thanks...have a great day!!!!

Sheila - glad the movers finally came. My DS has had similar experiences with setting up dates, and then they change. And those air mattresses are the best invention - every military person should have one for these moves! :o)

Sounds like all our pilots/families are starting to get settled into their next phase of training. We can all be so proud of our kids!!!
