bootski - I checked with my DS and he thought the best place to live in Pcola would be Snug Harbor (I think it's an apt complex) - close to the base gate. I am sure there are lots of Navy kids moving in and out all the time... Hope this helps!

For you snowbirds, here's something you can laugh about: we might get a frost here tonight!  I've been out throwing sheets over my beans and tomatoes.  It's a bit early, even for Fairbanks!

Congratulations to the new wingers.

Rose, glad to hear it's going well.

I am sure that I am putting more into it than I need to.  No, we are from Wausau WI about 3.5 hours north of Milwaukee.  I am going to love VISITING him in that warmer climate!!!  LOL  Told my husband that we will have to take a trip in January during the worst part of the winter.

And some will stay in a hotel and find a place. My son was able to find apts and move in rather quickly. He also did a little research online before getting there. There are always guys coming in and leaving, so places just turn up. Sometimes they just stay with someone for a week or two, too, until they get things in order. So are you from the Milwaukee area? We would be midwest neighbors. Marquette is a great school! (Totally agree with the winter thing - he is going to love the warmer climates in the winter!)

Thank you for the welcome!  My son graduated from the ROTC program at Marquette University in Milwaukee.  Wisconsin is where it is at, except in the winter!  LOL!  I am excited for him but also nervous as I am a planner and like to know what is coming.  I am actually surprised that there isn't more information available so he knows what to expect, but then I realize that this is the government that we are working with.  He has his name on the list for an apt offbase, but I don't know if he has to stay on or off base.  So any information would be greatly appreciated.

Congratulations, Nancy! That was my son's first choice, but most of his winging class, as well as his friends from OCS , went to Lemoore! Oceana was a little closer to home - I will be anxious to hear how your DS likes it there! Have a fun day tomorrow!!!!

We also flew SW to San Antonio and drove to CC when we were there.  Stayed in San Antonio for a couple of days on the way home - very interesting city!!

Been looking around the site since I am new here and haven't found what I am looking for.  My son, just graduated as an Ensign and has been on IRR - just received orders to report to Pensacola for flight school October 14th.  What can he expect?  What about housing?  Does he receive a housing stipend?  Any information you can give me would be great!!
