Here's why the P8 is in JAX - be sure to check this out - the Centennial of Naval Aviation Celebration - I found out about it last month from my son - wish they'd roll out all the P8s soon!

Yesterday afternoon I sent letters to both of our senators from Colorado.  I got the following reply today from one of them.  I have to say, I was impressed.

Dear AH

Thank you for contacting me regarding the impact a government shutdown would have on military personnel and their family members.  I appreciate and share your concerns.
I believe Congress has a responsibility to reach a compromise on the budget debate.  The American people expect us to pass a federal budget that reduces our long-term deficit and cuts unnecessary spending, while supporting our fragile economic recovery and providing critical services to the American people.  I recently sent a letter signed by 15 of my Senate colleagues to U.S. House of Representatives Speaker John Boehner requesting the swift passage of a responsible budget, and I have consistently pushed Senate leaders to fund the Department of Defense and other agencies through the end of Fiscal Year 2011.
In the event of a government shutdown, I will do everything in my power to ensure that our military personnel and their families continue to be paid.  The paychecks of our soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines should never be held hostage to politics.  Military families have done more than their fair share over the last several years, and I have tremendous respect for the sacrifices that they make every day.  Our troops should never have to worry about whether they will be paid on time, especially when they need to be focused on their important missions at home and overseas.
To ensure that our service members are protected from the inability of Congressional leaders to reach a compromise, I have cosponsored a resolution (S.Res.724) that would guarantee on-time pay to military personnel in the event of a government shutdown.  Rest assured, I will continue to work hard to avoid a government shutdown and the disastrous impact it would have on our economic recovery. I will continue to listen closely to what you and other Coloradans have to say about matters before Congress, the concerns of our communities, and the issues facing Colorado and the nation.  My job is not about merely supporting or opposing legislation; it is also about bridging the divide that has paralyzed our nation's politics.  For more information about my positions and to learn how my office can assist you, please visit my website at www.markudall.senate.gov.

Warm regards,

Mark Udall
U.S. Senator, Colorado

Don't bet on the civilian teachers not showing up.  I know for a fact there have been times when the school was closed due to bad weather and the Chem and Physic teachers went up and down the halls informing them that class was still on.

Denise, you should have video-taped your son and sent it in to Ellen - you./he might have been invited to be on her show - she's had a couple of people that were coming off of anesthesia after having wisdom teeth pulled who were wonderfully video-taped by a loved one on her show - funny stuff!
