Okay, so I am hoping the worst is over for DS who is finishing up SERE either today or tomorrow - hopefully by my saying that he's not somewhere where someone will tell him his mom is whack - he'd probably just say "tell me something I don't know" :)  Been a long week.

He reports to his new squadron when he returns and believes they will deploy in May or April.  So someone who has experienced deployment and return from - if one could be present for one or the other, should it be for deployment or return?  This all is really getting to be very emotional - my thoughts are so with all of you with deployed loved ones!

Well Andrew deployed today as his squadron flew onto the Enterprise. Our flights were delayed in total 8 hours but 15 hours later we got there to help with the packing and to say our goodbyes- oh my goodness so many emotions from your heart breaking to seeing the excitement and "let's do this" gleam in his eyes. Thanks for all of your prayers

Thanks flyboymom and Lynn for your comments.

First port of call- Lisbon- then I guess a lot of wives- family are meeting the boat in Dubai- nice!

For me back to work tomorrow in snowy NY

God bless our sailors and aviators and for the men and women who guide them

The ship that my son is on is set for some sort of refurbishment in 2012.  It is set to make a "world cruise" in late 2011 taking off from Everett WA.  It is scheduled to pull into Norfolk VA after the cruise the middle of 2012.  Given that it is a refurbishment and has to be scheduled, they are announcing it already from the PAO's office and posting on Facebook.  It sounds like it is pretty definate.  My son will be finishing his 3 years in March of 2012 with his squadron so he doesn't know if they will extend his assignment to this squadron and stay out with the boat or send him to his next assignment before the end of the cruise.

lou2949- husband got the tags at yourdogtags.com. Thanks for all of your well wishes on the engagement and deployment. We have a very close friend who is a rear admiral and he says that these aviators about to deploy are about to experience one of the most exciting times of their lives. I do hear it in my son's voice- very excited and ready to begin.

Denise- Thanks for the message !!!!! I will call you sometime in the airport- keep your fingers crossed about the weather! Hope all is well at home.

Congrats Sarah!! My son was engaged over the Christmas Holiday as well!! Just got off the phone with future DIL as we shed a few tears- deployment tomorrow - away for 6 months. Hopefully the snow will hold off for our flight tomorrow. Husband just gave us gifts of engraved dog tags with son's name and Psalm 91- the protection Psalm. You just don't know how it is going to hit you until the day is near-very emotional. God bless all of our military and the families that love and support them.

What about furniture? If he rents unfurnished will the Navy ship his stuff from home, then 4 months later to Whiting, then to wherever? If he is on a ship, do they store it? Do they send it over seas? Should he just rent furnished?? Help!!

Yes, I am the mom with the son who had the issue over breaking his lease...... 2 of his 3 roommates got orders to CC so they could break the lease, the 3rd DOR'd so he could break the lease but my son stayed in P'cola so the landlord/property management expected my son to fulfill the the entire remainder of the lease.$2700.00 by himself....attorney's involved on both sides and it still isn't resolved. The lease runs out in April at which time, my son could get slapped with a huge lawsuit for nearly 20k. So, make sure if roommates are involved, there is a clause in the lease that releases everyone if one or more of the renters get orders somewhere else. This black cloud still remains and I only hope it doesn't go any further.

lou2949:  Son got the E6, so they are off to Oklahoma.  He was top of his class, so got to pick which plane he wanted.  Still waiting on orders, so not really sure how soon they will leave P'cola.  They are looking for a house to buy there...apparently the rental market is tough.  Must be cuz it is also the home of the University of Oklahoma...too many students looking for affordable housing.  Anyway...off on the next part of his Navy adventure!
